Cold day at santapod = not traction off the line.

It was RWYB day at the pod yesterday and it was freezing. The track was no good and hard to get power down odd the line, Here is my 2nd run, I ended up Giving up as wheels were still spinning as I grabbed 3rd gear with it hitting the limiter in first and second.

How much power are you running and what tyres!?

I had the cheapest crapest tyres on mine when I first got it and still only got wheel spin in 1st gear the rest was fine and I was running mid 13's all day in a Stock 05 JDM STi

wimpy 25 February 2013 05:24 PM

I have good tyres on mine that was the only run it happened on. changed lanes after and it was much better. only running 311 in a wrx.

JGlanzaV 25 February 2013 05:25 PM

What time did you run? I ran an 11.6 in the wet and only wheel span in 1st gear

wimpy 25 February 2013 05:28 PM

I was running low 14's, Not sure if the car before me dropped anything?

JGlanzaV 25 February 2013 05:35 PM

How much power?

What tyres?

What suspension?

If I can put down 517 in the wet with limited wheel spin etc. its either going to be driver error or a set up issue.

11.6 in the wet, how did you manage that then as they close the track as soon as it rains:wonder: then they dry it with the dryer on the back off a lorry and dont allow anyone to run unless the track is completely dry

JGlanzaV 25 February 2013 05:36 PM

And tommy this wasn't at pod.

tubbytommy 25 February 2013 05:38 PM

i go and watch at santa pod quite often on rwyb days as its local to me.
most standard wrxs run in the 14's and standard stis in the 13's.
you need over 400 bhp to get into the 12's in an impreza.

If this directed at me?
311bhp
Great tyres
Teins all round.

As said it was the only run that it happened all day all day

JGlanzaV 25 February 2013 05:43 PM

I think your issues are more down to set up than the weather. Did you warm the tyres? Did you adjust pressures etc? Damper settings on the coilovers? (Soft at back hard at front) plenty of things to check :)

At pod in the summer I will be hoping to break into the 10s if I can get the set up correct.

tubbytommy 25 February 2013 05:43 PM

wimpy id say your car is about right for the power and conditions.
as i said the stis are in the 13's at pod, but the gearing is different on 6 speed box's

wimpy 25 February 2013 05:45 PM

Again as said out of all the runs I did yesterday this was the only time this happened so set up is just fine! This thread was more of a bugger this happened type thing. lol

tubbytommy 25 February 2013 05:48 PM

looks like you gave up as you were getting owned by a big 4 x 4 ;)

yea time wise I know its spot on so that's cool. I would love to brake into the 13's but not looking likely. its going in for another mapping in the next few weeks to do a few tweeks as only running 0.9 boost.

rickya 25 February 2013 05:51 PM

Looks like fun mate :)

JGlanzaV 25 February 2013 05:54 PM

Set up is just as important as the power :) getting the right damper settings and pressures etc. Its always worth spending time trying different things.

I don't see why you couldn't break into the 13s with more practice and some more set up tweaks :)

wimpy 25 February 2013 05:54 PM

It was a good day Ricky.

cant say i have ever seen a spec c run down there, the lower gearing would probably get you in the 12's though

wimpy 25 February 2013 06:01 PM

There was a nice WR1 running in the 13's

Busterbulldog 25 February 2013 06:02 PM

My old S type jag ,one run only did an 11.9...yet got owned by a mk1 Corsa

wimpy 25 February 2013 06:07 PM

There was also a lush 6.1 Hemi jeep running low 13's it went like stink for something that size.

sonic93 25 February 2013 07:43 PM

My mates was there yest mate in black type r and red golf edition 30 he got a 13.2 and standard type r got 13.3

MattyB1983 25 February 2013 10:57 PM

The new owner of my old car was running it yesterday. He said the track was awful and couldn't stop the wheels spinning, he ran a low 13. Ive run mid 12's in it with wheel spin (almost 3 sec 60ft).
Unless the weather has been perfect for a few days leading up to the rwyb day then the track always seems very greasy. I spun up through the first three gears with little over 400 ponies.

False I ran 11.68 and 11.71 back to back running a 2.1 and td05 20g. Fairly lightweight
Classic mapped for 10% methanol. In the dry possibly down wind though :D
