Look at the flange on the centre drops below 3" why do they do this and not just run 3" the whole way or do you not think it would affect anything

The system in the link looks like a 2.5" system so wouldn't have 3" flange anyway. The larger part in the pipe work is a resonator.

Some 3" systems use 2.5" flange so they can meet up with standard downpipe.

Yes I know it's a resonator so if it's a 2.5" system why would you step it down further what gains are going to be achieved, that's obviously if it's not a 3" of course

I dont understand what you mean chap, the system in the link isn't being stepped down further as far as I can see.

2.5" is the normal diameter of a impreza exhaust so most systems use this diameter. However, some are 3" but unless you change the downpupe as well you will need to step the 3" down to 2.5" to join the downpipe.
There are no gains to be had from stepping a systems diameter down.

Just to clarify are you looking at the step down being between the flange that has slid up towards the resinator and the end of the pipe? As if so it does look like this is a bend oin the pipe so is a optical illusion due to a slight creasde in the pipe at the bend.

Yes that is what I'm looking at
