Whats a Scoob worth in scrap nowadays?

Today I recieved the news that I had been dreading. The bottom end of my 2009 impreza diesel has failed and the car is now scrap. The repair costs outway what the car is now worth, and so its now time to get rid and cut my losses and effecitvly write it off.

Repair costs are £9k as it needs a complete new engine, thanks ot a bearing failing and the resulting swarf being passed around the engine taking the turbo with it. In its current state, it runs just, but no one knows for how much longer.

RobCollin 13 February 2013 12:37 AM

you should find yourself a nice sti engine that slots straight in there...

lordharding 13 February 2013 01:36 AM

Omg
Diesel engine

Allan 13 February 2013 08:28 AM

2009  aren’t Subaru interested in contributing anything.

MOTORS S GT 13 February 2013 08:47 AM

I presume its the rear main bearing failure, if so not exactly a rare failure on the diesel.

Spot on diagnosis ;)

Fast63 13 February 2013 09:14 AM

Surely you could get a second hand engine from a write off for less.

MattyB1983 13 February 2013 09:25 AM

Scrapping a 2009 impreza because the engine has failed ????
Dont talk crazy, and as for 9K repair costs. ...lol.... at subaru main dealer no dount.

There are other options. Speak to a specialist about your options, not subaru direct.

M444GY 13 February 2013 09:39 AM

id source another engine or a reputable subaru specialist to have a look mate 9k for a new engine , even aston martin engines dont cost that lol

DrDiesel 13 February 2013 09:44 AM

£9K ?!
that's how much Porsche charges for a 996 replacement engine!

Is it gold-plated?
;>

MattyB1983 13 February 2013 10:25 AM

Main dealer prices....lol... don't you just love them.
The stupid thing is that people actually pay them.

The Pink Ninja 13 February 2013 10:29 AM

Get it fixed but not for 9k, I'll give you 2.5k for it as it is :D

Simon C 13 February 2013 10:34 AM

Gaz, if your serious your on :) Cars in Potton Beds, you collect :)

MattyB1983 13 February 2013 10:36 AM

Simon.
What colour is the car ?
How many miles has it done ?

Simon C 13 February 2013 10:53 AM

Matty, its Obsidian black pearl, with just under 57k on the clock. 1 owner from new, full service history, sti upper grille fitted.

Had a new tail gate through warranty in 2011 and 4 new wheels, also through warranty. Windows have been tinted proffesionally and Litchfield Importes fitted a Whilteline rear ARB at 6 weeks old.

Hopefully you can see this gallery.

You should go to the press.
Watchdog etc, get every single person you can talking about it.
They are a shower of b@stards for treating people like this.

Car is mine mate to do with as I wish, inc torching it if I wanted. Last night whilst drunk if it had been at mine, then that might well have happened.

I really feel for you mate. Mine went pop ( not diesel) and IM refused the warranty unfairly imo. Fortunately for me the dealer put it right (Chelmsford AMC) and i came up smelling of roses. IM the cheeky sods even had the cheek to phone me the other week to see if i wanted to renew my warranty. I told them straight what i thought of there warranty.

It is considering the DTC for proposed reason for rejection isn't present in the ecu. Very naughty.

stockcar 13 February 2013 12:49 PM

so the exact reason is what exactly Rob??

JR WRX 13 February 2013 01:24 PM

Feel for you.
In my experience (and I have done this) money talks - or lack of.
The dealer has suffered no loss - only you - so time to turn the tables. Park your car directly outside the dealers on public land. Put on the inside windscreen in big letters all of the ablove, car only done 57K, blown engine, warranty claim refused. Walk in to the dealer and tell them your going to leave the car there until such a time that thay do something and walk away. It will affect their sales - so it now hurts their cash. You may be suprised how quick they get back. I did this for a few years back to a Citroen dealer - by the time I got back home there was a hire car on my drive, etc etc.

Bloody hell, 9 grand for a Diesel engine!!

Would it not be worth your whole getting a new engine built. A 3-4 year old car is a lot to write off in the heat of the moment. Someone would be getting a bargain for 2500 quid if you are serious.

You've done that yourself?
Care to name the marque?

g7prs 13 February 2013 01:43 PM

Not just an engine though. Engine, turbo, and id assume they would replace the full fuel system as well?
