Help oil leak

Hi guys
I have just noticed a little smoke coming from under my bonnet
I looked under the car and see oil on the sump and oil filter and a little on the exhaust at front

I have a v3 sti import

I haven't been able to get the car in the air but could any say wht this could roughly be and do I need to brace myself for something bad

Cheers

Well if u read I was asking if I need to brace myself for something bad not for wht the problem is. Not a silly question but maybe your answer was wrong and could of been out better

As new to scoobys I wanted to know if it is something that is normal.
As I have said I have looked but I can't find where it's coming from

If u cant find where its coming from and you can see the car how the f*ck is someone on here going to tell you if you should brace yourself without even knowing what the problem is???????? Good luck what ever your quest is :thumb:

Has someone recently changed the oil? Reason I ask is that there is a heat shield near the oil filter, and if it's recently been replaced, you'll always get oil on this heat shield. Could be just burning off if it wasn't cleaned off the heat shield?

Same with the sump, may not have been wiped clean properly after the oil was dropped out and sump plug replaced?

Give the underside of the engine a good steam-clean off before you get it up in the air as it will make it easier to see the source of the leak and not the oil blown around the engine.
If it is difficult to pinpoint, then use a UV leak detection dye in the oil - costs around £7 for a small bottle.

Thanks for the reply
Oil change was done couple of months ago
It was all oil free and drive last month for mot

I looks to be between block and cam cover of that's any good

Rocker cover gaskets then by the sound of it. Not an engine out job (I don't think) but fiddly to do I can imagine with the engine in place.

No big deal though, get both done. Can't put a price on piece of mind mate.

Ask around for a well reputed Subaru specialist in the Kent area, they'll put it right in no time, and I doubt it'll cost the earth

VERY common, mostly so on the driver's side.
Oil leaks from the camcover onto the headers and burns off. Even one drop makes clouds of smoke:(

I just seen i have an oil leak (evidence on drive)

Check oil levels, check oil position of leak, fix accordingly.......
