Blown fuse and now car wont start?
 

While installing my steering wheel, I used my cutoff to cut the power to the car.

Now when I connected it back up, it turns out the live had got loose on the battery, and it blew a 50a fuse !! No SBF7 in the engine bay. So without fuse it wouldn't turn over obviously

So religiously have been back through all other fuses (engine bay fues board and under the dash fuse board), tightened battery clamps back up, changed resistor in the cutoff (just in case) and replaced fuse.

Now the car turns over, and I can smell its getting fuel, but no spark. Simtek ECU so no error code reading for me :)

Any suggestions? Im wondering if the coil pack could have gone as the cutoff is connected to that?

Bloody annoying I know that! I do know have a full set of fuses for the car, and hoping to rally it in June, so that's a bonus, but helps if it moves off the drive lol

u could check the coil through the leads hold it near to a spark plug head preferably with insulated tools and see if your getting spark or u could get hi tech and get hold of a spark checker. does sound like spark is your issue u should hear the fuel pump kick in when u flick the key if u hear that then u can be quite sure its not fuel!

Can hear both fuel pumps kick in, and smell petrol out of the exhaust.

Can you check the leads against he block?

Hopefully havent damaged ecu!

u can check your leads on the block the leads will produce a spark against any metallic surface! if the current went passed the fuse then its possible that it could of reached your ecu check your coil first and maybe do a visual on your ecu!

This happened to my classic, the ecu stopped pairing with the car. A simple reset sorted the problem out

Update is coil pack is getting power, but clearly no signal to spark from ecu.

David at Api suggested trying cam sensor, but that seemed fine so ecu on its way to Alcatek!

Bugger, anyway that it no way reflects on the help you guys gave and much appreciated!

Grant, don't just send that willy-nilly to Andy at Alcatek, he gets heaps of them arrive for the upgrades and it really wrecks his system, cos everyone expects it back by return post.

Do you want me to call him up and see what turnaround is like currently it was about 3 weeks last l asked.?

Update- API and Bob Rawle arranged for ecu to be returned- appreciated gents

Had this a couple of times. Turned out to be the cam pulley!! If you have metal pulleys then it won't be. But if you have the Bakelite ones I'd just give it a try. Took me ages to figure it out first time it happened.

How do you make the leap from running OK - blowing a fuse - not starting after that, and a cam pulley being faulty?

I do beleive in coincidence!! It was my opinion, no need to get smart ! I offered the info from past experiences. To which sound simalar to to the op's ! I have specialised in subarus for 12 years, repair and tuning ! As the op has not scoped the cam sensor I wouldn't rule it out !
