Saab 9-3 1.9TD Sport 2006 - Loss of power
 

A friend at work has the above car and is having a weird issue with it.
Last week, the car went into limp mode and was throwing out clouds of white smoke. The engine was also miss-firing. It still drove and when he finally got the code read, it indicated that there was a fault with the climate control system. Once the car started after the fault was cleared, the car ran fine.....until yesterday.

Now he has the same symptons but with no fault code.
He says that the power returns to normal when the car is warm but loses power drastically when he turns the heater to max. :wonder:

Any ideas???

The EGR valves on these are epically woeful, can't see a connection to the heating though. AC compressor starting to seize perhaps? But then that wouldn't cause smoke from the exhaust or a misfire, just a general loss of power... my money is still with the EGR.

Wiring on injector number 3 can play up on these but again, I don't know what the heater can have to do with it. Same engine as used in the Vectras so try the Vauxhall forums as well. Can you switch the climate to economy mode so that it isn't using the air con compressor.

Oddly enough, injector no. 3 has a different plug to the others. So someone has either fixed it before or it was a factory re-call. To be honest, I think it is bad fuel. May be some ****e has blocked one injector and when it warms up and expands, the problem goes. Either that or a glow plug or its relay is faulty. He is going to have a proper look at the weekend.

I think the injector thing is the same on all of them as ours is different too, MY06 1,9 TDI Vector Sport, We have a problem in that the altenator is starting to make a whining noise now, Any ideas for a replacement/refurb/2nd hand one....Do the vauxhaul ones work?
