Orange - Changing their upgrade policy

Mrs signed up 18 months ago on a two year contract. At the time, they stated that she could upgrade 6 months before the contract ran out.

Popped into Orange (Now EE) on Sunday to discuss her options. Sales woman said that she could now only upgrade 45 days before the end of her contract. She made out that this wasn't their doing, but Ofcoms. Is this right?

Surely if they have changed the terms of her contract, she can cancel now anyway??

Basically she has a Samsung Galaxy Ace and it is awful. Plus the boy got hold of it and decided it would look better with a cracked screen. :D
Otherwise she wouldn't be thinking of upgrading early.

Any help appreciated.

I had the same issue with a non-charging phone - simply went into carphone whorehouse (sorry warehouse) and they sorted me out with the new experia t in under 1/2 an hour..and at £9 a month less!!

Were you still in contract with Orange though?

Think I'll tell her to just wait. At least she can tell Orange to go forth and multiply! :D

I've been out of contract for a month and its been a slog getting a deal out of orange. Usually theres some foreplay and I get the phone I want on a cheap tariff. This time they haven't wanted to budge.

I did get an OK deal in the end but had to go to Phones 4U rather than orange direct.

i been a orange customer for years, it was always a 90 day prior to contract ending upgrade system, then they add it on to the end

i think im due next week or so but i havent checked

Exactly this. Orange don't care a toss or budge anymore. So I told them to shove it and got a much better deal direct with T-Mobile via Quidco. Same company essentially but orange's tarrifs were crap in comparison.

I left orange just over a year ago after 16 years because their attitude has changed went to Tesco PAYG saving money.

Also the upgrade early means they give you another rubbish contract and tie you in for 2 more years, its a scam as they never have to offer you a competative tarriff as you are tied to them

Been with them since 1993..... think I might be going elsewhere for the first time ever as they seem to have lost the plot!

Not pslewis no, although would be happy to be thought of in the same legendary way ;) :lol1:

Must be 1994 then, the company I worked for signed us up when they were called Microtel a few months before they launched and rebranded - we all had their phones on the first day and none of them would bloody work as the network coverage was pretty patchy for the first few mionths .... I remember people saying they wouldn't last 6 months.... whoops :D

Aye, that all takes me back!

I remember driving down the M40 and wondering what those triangular cross-section masts that were appearing at bridges and intersections were. And those advertising posters with a plain black background and words like "Cry" and "Laugh" appearing all over the place?

I got my Nokia Orange some six months after the launch - on Talk 15, which was fine for many years.

And you try to tell that to the kids of today ;)
