Bugeye headlight questions

Hello,
I have a bugeye wrx, and I think the headlights dont suit the front much...
The car itself is midnight black pearl, and fog lights are yellow...
Im planning to paint the headlight inside black, then add subtile black film on top , change bulbs for philips night breakers, take out the orange repaters and change for the silverthing bulbs :) and make the sidelights LED...
My questions are-
What kind of led can be used on the sidelight?? (Ebay link would be excellent)
And since my foglights are yellow, I was thinking to give the main beam bowl a light stroke of yellow paint -how do you think that would look? If it makes the light a bit yellowish is that a mot failure and illegal? (I dont mean fully yellow inside, just a really thin coat sonit would have the shade.

Any pictures if your bugeye headlights are more than welcome!!!!
Thx
Dimitry

Is this on a car in the UK, to be used in the UK?

First off, better to change the foglights for clear...plenty on ebay and cheap enough, old style and crystal available.

Second, I'm not a fan of films on lights. They cut down the light output so YOU don't see as well and OTHERS don't see YOU as well...after all, isn't that what lights are for, not to look good?

You didnt understand me correctly-

Its just film on the fogs anyway, I found that smoked fogs look even better, so I might redo them for the smoked look, and leave headlights unsmoked for better vision....
Btw, is it possible to adjust the headlights higher , my car has coilovers, and the switch inside doesnt make them high enough even on the maximum position...cheers

Yes, there are adjuster on each light, one for side to side, one for up/down. They are usually hex headed and face upwards, they are on the electrical motors.
Put the switch in the car to it's highest, then adjust the adjusters until you are satisfied.

Easiest way to do it is with the car about 10 metres from a wall on a level surface, get someone to stand in front of one light while you do the other, or hang something over one, like an old towel. Put the lights on dip and adjust. You probably won't need to touch the side to side setting.

I usually experiment with mine against the garage door at home, so I know where the adjuster is and which way to turn it for up/down.
Then I go into a closed carpark etc with a torch.....
Final "tuning" is usually done on a long straight road with the lights on main beam.

Only problem with doing that is that your car may fail the MOT if the beam is adjusted too high. That is if the tester uses a beam setter to check them.

True, but I've never had one fail yet. You have to use some common sense...too high and they are useless on main beam.

Yeh thats not a big issue :)) , jist wanted to find out where and how...seems the same as in my bmw I had before ....
What do you think, should I do the foglights subtile black ?? Or keep them yellow?

alcazar 05 February 2013 01:11 PM

Clear!!

Nero_slk 05 February 2013 01:18 PM

I dont use them anyway, there more of a look thing :)

alcazar 05 February 2013 03:48 PM

And they look better clear...or replace them with DRIVING lights and see where you are going....

Bin the std lights and get some STI units (better still JDM HiDs) and fit fog covers.

My JDM HiDs are reworked so the sidelights (LED) are where the indicators should be as std (obviously the indicators are now in the sidelight position)

Nero_slk 06 February 2013 07:55 AM

That looks good...but I was thinking- I like the power of sti...like the looks... maybe its just worth selling mine and getting a proper STi?? I think ill waste more money upgrading, and it will still be wrx :D

uk_99 06 February 2013 04:07 PM

yep i would get a proper sti
i did look at a few wrx when i got my sti but there is so many difrences in the sti-wrx that it would cost alot to get anywhere near it
