Roll cage question
Right chaps after much deliberation and plan changes I've done the deed
And decided that the bugs stopping pretty much as it is ( maybe a few tweaks and a tidy ) I'm now starting a new build using an ra shell I'm thinking track/ Tarmac rally type spec be posting it in projects as soon as I get started The first job is start stripping /prepping the shell seam welding and cage I'm undecided about cage material What are the wieght saving for a full weld in cage by using t45 as opposed to CDS I know with t45 you can use thinner wall over CDS so that is an obvious saving to start , but for what I'm gonna be using it for ( track days ) would the extra wieght saving + expense be worth while |
I'll be following this one, the hill climb car I'm planning to build is in a RA shell also.

Whats the extra cost coming in at?
TBH if your not competing i'd save the money for other areas like brake's, good brakes will make you a lot faster.;) I'd also start the project thread as you will get more of the answers your after in there.:thumb: |

TBH if your not competing i'd save the money for other areas like brake's, good brakes will make you a lot faster.;) I know what you're saying mate , I'm not trying to eek every wieght saving advantage because there's really no need and as you say money could be better spent elsewhere Its just if a t45 cage less than half the wieght or more , it will niggle me a little especially as its the biggest single item that's gonna be installed that will add wieght |

T45 is about 400 more, 15KG cheaper and slim line:

But i opted for the CDS, my shell is stripped quite a lot but it's still got the under seal and isn't seem welded. Looms cut down a lot but not fully custom and relocated. I would go T45 only if you have gone all out and can drive, but going all out without the right tools is quite hard. Thanks |

Thanks Sam I'm surprised there's only 15 kg difference Tbh I think I'm gonna go cds , I'm going no underseal / sound deadening ect and I'm sure with some thought I can lose plenty from elsewhere without compromising the shell I've been toying with the idea of tubular cross member / subframes as per group a , but tbh I don't really know that much about why they run them (anyone know) All I can think is they're more rigid / lighter , maybe ? |

All cc cages are certified the CDs cage is 55 kg removing the sound deadening comes in at around 30kg both front seats 20kg each rear bench seat cut out the doors etc etc good compramise really and the added feeling of security if you do roll it

But with this build I want to try and put a little more effort in , it always seems a bit of a bummer when you try and cut the weight down and then bam in with some steel tube and its back on Even though in reality it's not gonna make it lap any slower with a few kg more welded in |
It does look substantial and also like it would be more than 55kg
Can you feel any difference in the drive of he car |
Not had mine on the scales yet but will when the 6 speed goes in next week , if you shed as much weight as you can you'll be surprised how much the lot weighs all the roof lining sunroof doors carpet matrix etc the extra you get from the cage will be minimal
