I thought this was going to be quietly dropped...

... but I was wrong.

Chris Huhne to stand trial over speeding points on Monday.

...charged in February last year with perverting the course of justice, an offence that carries a maximum sentence of life imprisonment
Ah, one can dream...

alcazar 28 January 2013 03:59 PM

Yeah, yeah....and what will he get? Small fine and costs he will charge to the taxpayer?

Imprisonment? No chance.....

ReallyReallyGoodMeat 28 January 2013 04:15 PM

For someone found guilty of the offence he is being charged with, I'd settle for a reasonable length of Community service and a hefty fine.

(especially given even violent criminals aren't given custodial sentences these days)

warrenm2 28 January 2013 06:09 PM

Please, please ,please be guilty! He'd then have to resign his seat as well!

alcazar 28 January 2013 06:34 PM

Not gonna happen then......

markjmd 28 January 2013 06:36 PM

If I could be sure he'd get sent down, I'd probably take a couple days off work just to watch the slimy little toad squirm in the dock. In reality, there's probably only an outside chance he'll get a suspended sentence if found guilty (which he certainly is). I won't be holding my breath, but you never know.

hodgy0_2 28 January 2013 06:40 PM

from what I have read, he is defiantly guilty

his wife was at a party in Lewisham at the time of the offence

And hopefully will get convicted (I think he prob will)

he has probably lied so much about this that he believes his own story now

ReallyReallyGoodMeat 28 January 2013 06:41 PM

I don't know the finer details of the case but how do you know he's certainly guilty mark?

Edit: Just saw hodgy reply answering that

richs2891 28 January 2013 06:44 PM

I can guarantee that he will get less of a punishment if you or I committed the same offence.

Richard

ReallyReallyGoodMeat 28 January 2013 06:51 PM

Be interesting to see what his defence will be if it is already public knowledge that his wife was at a party miles away at the time she was supposed to be driving.

David Lock 28 January 2013 07:04 PM

If guilty he will go down "as an example".

His ex will also be done.

Clegg must be very pleased

dl

hodgy0_2 28 January 2013 07:22 PM

The interesting thing about this, is that although his (ex) wife has pleaded not guilty to the charges, she has done so on the grounds of marital coercion

The back story here is that huhne and his ex wife went through a very messy divorce

A women scorned - frightening

And hopefully he gets the book thrown at him and goes down in flames

Chip 28 January 2013 07:48 PM

Waste of public money. i'm sure a few on here have done the same. ;)

alcazar 28 January 2013 09:18 PM

Wasn't Archer sent down for perverting the course?

Judges do take it seriously.....

hodgy0_2 28 January 2013 09:24 PM

Yep and Jonathan Aitken

They do take it seriously, I think there is a better than evens chance he will go down

Not really. He's been elected to represent the people of his constituency and is in a position of trust. He therefore should act in an honest fashion, and when, sorry IF, caught out lying in court should receive an appropriate sentence from the judge. It's in the publics interest that these sorts of people be pursued. The courts take a dim view of any 'normal' person found guilty of the same offence. Highly educated sorts, you could say the elite, should not be seen to be above the law.:)

The earlier "silence" may be due to a contempt of court order :Suspiciou ...

Today is H-Day!!

You're guaranteeing that are you?

Based on what, the judiciaries love of lying politicians?

I guarantee that you have no idea what the difference in punishment would be, so your 'guarantee' is just hogwash!
