Syncro replacement advice..

I use my 93 import for track days and general driving about. So far, I seem to have gone through two gearboxes. By going through them, I mean it has got to a point where you can't put it in gear at really high rpm. If you are careful and drive the car normally, the gearbox is fine. Just that isn't a lot of use when you are after good track times.

Has anyone decided to go about replacing the syncros or is it just wise to buy another gearbox?

The rings seem relatively cheap but the hubs are a stupid price for what the gearbox is worth. Do you normally just replace the rings? Or do you do the hubs as well?

Just upgrade the box, if your going through a few then either a newer TY754, or for track days a 6 speed.

No probs.

I have been through a few boxes, from one going through the contents of its oil in 3 days, and whining its butt off. To a later 754 stripping every tooth on both 3rd gears.

I now have an early 752 STI box (4.444 rear diff), and my old JDM 754 box has had new gears (rebuilt). So UK gears with Jap import final drive and diffs (1:1, and 4.111 rear diff), so not really low ratio but not long ratio either, sort of inbetween.

But not sure if I'm gonna keep that as its sitting in my garage, and the STI box seems to be doing well lol.

Jimbob, what do you think to this? I have sent a message to the guy, asking whether or not it would fit my 93 import.

I don`t know for sure but a quick look would say no??
But there are faaaaaaaaar more knowledgeable people than me who can help.

This is the sort of thing I'd go for.

As for DCCD I'm sure you can get aftermarket controllers, but the 6-speed are available non DCCD.

I did think about that one but no idea how many miles it has done or whether that is even something to worry about with the 6 speed (mileage)....
