Lincoln movie.

Just seen the Lincoln movie. Some good acting performances and some dodgy wigs. A movie I probably wouldn't go out of my way to see again.

I need to watch this one as well. I'm a sincere fan of Mr. Daniel Day-Lewis.

I'm torn. Daniel Day Lewis is a brilliant actor, but Spielberg's offerings in the last few years have been terminally dull!

Just watch it for the sake of DDL. Watching him act is such a powerful experience. Did you See There Will Be Blood? Film alone wouldn't have been the film it was, without DDL. He absolutely nailed it with his performance. Mind you, Paul Dano was also very compelling as a 'false prophet' in that. Anyway, enough about an old film.

Can't wait to see how DDL carries Lincoln on his shoulders.

Yes that is a brilliant movie as you say carried by DDL, but a great movie all round.

He acted DeCaprio off the screen in Gangs of New York too.... a rare mistake by Scorcese in my opinion as the gulf between them in ability was huge at the time.

Does DDL speak in this film, because in 'My Left Foot' he seemed to struggle a bit.

No, he doesn't speak, he uses sign language but don't worry there are subtitles.

Yeah, DDL's talent comfortably gulps these midstreamers like DeCaprio. I was surprised how Paul Dano stuck to his grounds in front of DDL, and put up a memorable show in There Will be Blood.

DDL seems like a dencent guy in real life, too. On his rare de-roled appearences, he deceivingly looks somewhat rough around the edges, but soon you discover that he's intelligent, polite a very well-spoken guy. Not publicity hungry either. All-rounder, really.

I'm sorry but I cant stop thinking about the Simpsons every time I hear Lincoln speak. Kind of ruins it for me.
Good for Mr Burns though.

That's no good - I'm blind.

I saw it last month. Its one of those film you'll either love it or it will bore you to death.
I thought it had "Oscar" written all over it. It had very strong performances by all the principal cast.

nyscooby 26 January 2013 01:28 PM

No body actually interested in history then?

stonejedi 26 January 2013 01:46 PM

Superb film, depending on taste, don't go to watch it expecting expendables 2,lots of American history in this film and a different view of honest abe,a very enjoyable flick.

History is the mother of our today, the father of our tomorrow, and the grandparent of our day after tomorrow. I like history now but to be honest, I hated history in school.

My history teacher from school was hopeless. He was not pretentious or anything for his encyclopaedic knowledge, but he was one tiresome, sesquipedalian orator and a total failure to keep his audience interested. That teacher made history unbearable and most boring for us.

I’m hoping that Spielberg doesn’t repeat that history for me.

I’ll decide for myself when I see it.

i saw Django Unchained on Friday night

and really enjoyed it --- (and I have not enjoyed a film for years)

Turbohot 27 January 2013 06:43 PM

Some good films on atm including Django Unchained.

DDL said today on Andrew Marr's show that he's unsure about winning the Oscar for best actor due to massive competition with some other deserving nomeniees. He's easy with that, and I look forward to see all other nominees' films when I can.

The new one I want to see is Trance. I think it's due on March. Let's see what Boyle has done there.

First time in a long time (and never on here) that I've had to look a word up. Well done ;)

See, what is was like to sit in a classroom where our teacher was hurling such big words non-stop at us in order to make us knowledgeable of great history. Nightmare! <shakes head> The words were even bigger and more complex for being in Hindi and Sanskrit. We didn’t have iPads and Google either those days to look up for WTF he was talking about. :(
