Acer laptop fingerprint features???

Just reminded me reading another computer thread.

See if anyone can answer this as its baffled me for some time now

On my laptop it runs vista home, with internet explorer 7, when it came to updating the Internet explorer to the new 8 my laptop wouldn't work the fingerprint recognition feature into website passwords etc as it saved the via the 7. Dosent even give the option to save in fingerprint feature (saves me remembering passwords). Tried other ie like Firefox, chrome and so on and still dosent work, so I've had to revert back to ie7. Does anyone know what the problem is here, does my laptop only work it's fingerprint features with the ie7 that it came with?
Thanks

Check acers's support site and see if there's an updated version of the software

Worth checking out the Acer website to see if a Fingerprint Software update is available. It may be the software that is not compatible with the new securtity features of each of the browsers.

Your probably right here, but I'm not fully clued up on this sort of stuff and don't know what I'm looking for etc, but could maybe for the new browsers out there.

If I give you model number could you possibly check for me and send me link etc and how to update it? Please.

I've just done a search and there's a few drivers from 2009 but unsure if these will work for the problem I want sorting? It's a bit mind boggling.

Basically it needs to work with the new browsers like Firefox, chrome etc.
Laptop came with ie7 so wondering if it only works for that.

Can do. Which Version of Windows are you using? Windows 7?

bustaMOVEs 17 January 2013 12:57 PM

Yep vista home with windows 7 ie, that's what i bought it as and everything works as it should, but when I update to other explorers it won't.
Thanks

jpor 17 January 2013 12:59 PM

So Windows Vista with IE7 then :)

bustaMOVEs 17 January 2013 01:01 PM

Yes.

Okay had a look on this page (under section 'fingerprint'):

http://support.acer.com/us/en/Produc...px?modelId=570

The top one is for Vista X86 (32 Bit edition)

UPEK

Version 1.9.2.111

Size = 115.7 MB

Date released: 07/15/2009

The second one is for Windows 7 X86 and 64 bit editions

UPEK

Version = 6.2.56

117.7 MB

10/23/2009

The third one down is for Vista X64 (64 bit) only:

ABIG

1.9.2.111

115.7 MB

05/06/2009

The forth one down is for Win7 X64 and X86 Only:

UPEK

6.2.56

117.8 MB

10/01/2009

You need to know if you are using a 32 bit or 64 bit version of Vista. To do this right click on teh 'My Computer' Icon on your Desktop or in the 'START' bar option and choose 'Properties' this will tell you under the section 'System' and System Type.

bustaMOVEs 17 January 2013 01:17 PM

How do I find out what Internet explorer I'm using? Just to make sure you have the correct info, won't tell me when I right click on icon and go into properties?

Once you have opened up Internet Explorer simply click on the 'Help' menu option and click 'About Internet Explorer'.

Nice. So you have a 32-bit (Or also known as a x86) Vista Operating System with Internet Explorer 7.

Okay Your best bet is to download the first 'Fingerprint' driver from the link I have provided you as this is the only one you can use :)

32 bit.
So just to confirm, I scroll down the list till I see fingerprint and download the 1st one?

Cool now downloading, once unzipped, do I then run the open file etc so it installs?

And should this now allow my fingerprint recognition to work on Firefox and chrome etc?

Yes under the 'Fingerprint' section the first Finger print driver. It actually says when you try and download 'VistaX86'. You will need to save this somewhere on your Hard Drive.
Once downloaded unzip the file to access the contents.

Before you download it maybe worth doing a system backup using Micorsoft System Restore point option first;

Look at this article to show you how:

http://www.techrepublic.com/article/...-vista/6159394

This way if the driver does some weird stuff you can safely restore the PC back to how it was before putting on the driver :)

Just trying to download this myself but it has hung on 84%. There should be some files such as 'Setup' and 'readme' etc...

Worth looking at the readme or any documentation first to give you an idea if the software will work to how you expect it to.

Well I'm at 70% you have a faster speed lol.
But yeah I'll check as I'm a bit dubious as the update is from 2009. So wondered if it will cope with the new IEs.

bustaMOVEs 17 January 2013 01:41 PM

Past 84%

BT Infinity 2 ;)

IE8 came out in roughly 2008 :)

There is now IE10 on Windows 8.

Im using IE9 on Windows 7 (2009).

Mine has downloaded. Looks like you go into the Folder it has created and you right click on the 'Install' file and choose run as Administrator to install.

But make sure you do the system restore point First! :)

if this works, what ie would you recommend I use as my ie7 is a bit old now and I know others are quicker and more modern site friendly.
By my laptop specifications I've given and using macafee?

Definately go with IE8 or 9 if you can get it.
IE7 will no longer be supported by some websites (Such as Shopping ones etc..) due to its age and security updates being not much available for it from Microsoft. IE6 was disowned by many sites last year because of this.

Worth trying IE8 first. Dont forget Windows Updates should also be taking care of security updates for both of your OS and Internet Explorer.

Ideally moving off VISTA all-together maybe a smarter move as Windows 7 is a lot better and slicker than VISTA. Put it this way I stayed on Windows XP due to VISTA and then moved directly to Windows 7. You wont notice much difference between VISTA and 7 apart from the speed ;)

I'd rather leave it as vista just to save the hassle of it all tbh as I'm a newbie to this, so ie8 would be your recomendation? If I have problems can I revert back to restore and will give me my ie7 back?

Yes. 'System Restore' will do this. Best doing different restore points.

1 for the new driver. If this works then create another before IE8 upgrade. If IE8 doesnt work then restore to one of the other points :)

Hopefully this is now enough for you to get going?

right I'm a bit baffled now, right click on the install file and choose admin to install file which it's not giving me that option?

Okay me bad. Should say 'Run as Administrator'? Or if you dont have this option then just try double left clicking :)

bustaMOVEs 17 January 2013 02:10 PM

Do I open install file and choose from 3 options, doc, tutorial or set up.bin?

jpor 17 January 2013 02:11 PM

The doc should give you some sort of documentation on the program. IF you want to try and just installing the driver then go for 'Setup'.
