B0DSKI 14 January 2013 10:26 PM

What turbo ?

scooby800 14 January 2013 10:29 PM

sorry vf 28

James804 14 January 2013 10:29 PM

to be brief. from what i can work out, if its TD early turbo then yeah. If you havent then only if you can afford a replacement. If you dont want the psssssshhtt noise then why not run the standard bov or equivalent.

Jacko4130 15 January 2013 08:35 AM

If you want rid of the noise of a DV don't do a DV delete, Return to the Standard recirc valve.

I run DV less and it makes more noise than either, It also kills your turbo if its not up to the job.

nyscooby 15 January 2013 10:32 AM

you might still get a woosh after dv delete from the wastegate. i did. more anoying tbh.

B0DSKI 15 January 2013 02:49 PM

I'd not go there on a VF28 tbh.

My old 321T I ran DV less with no problems at all. The VF's are a more fragile beast ;)

Kedlestone 15 January 2013 03:05 PM

What you driving mate, I'm in derby.

The Rig 15 January 2013 04:53 PM

Sorry to hijack but its on the same subject, so could i remove my dump valve and go dv less on my 1995 wrx, its using the standard original TD05 at 96k, would it be o.k or not worth the risk ? i do like the worble of going dv less but dont want to at the risk of doing damage, i dont drive car every day but when i do i use the boost LOL

cheers

In a short answer you will kill the turbo, With 96k on it i can't see it lasting long.

The Rig 15 January 2013 06:12 PM

Thats what i thought LOL, cheers

It should be fine. I ran mine for about 6 months without a DV fitted, got sick of the bloody noise though.

Jacko4130 15 January 2013 07:14 PM

Crack on then and wait for the old worn turbo to die....

mickywrx 15 January 2013 07:21 PM

:Whatever_

TD05 is one of the toughest OEM turbo's available. It's in no way comparable to an early VF series. :thumb:

wrx271 15 January 2013 07:26 PM

This is a reoccurring question asked across the net in my experience I've never seen a turbo fail because it had no dv I'm not saying it can't happen but look at it this way all the cossys fiesta turbos 200sx etc etc that run without dvs I personally ran my fezzy turbo without for the 2 years I had it 88k on the clock never had any issues and that was on gear rated for 100k miles back then all my evos again no dv no issues early subs no problems I've not yet run a vf turbo without as now I'm a bit older I like less noise so I've left as it is but I would be happy to take it off.
The drive without a dv can feel sharper but at the same time could make the car jurky on light throttle town driving etc so there is pros and cons.

As regards to the guy with the 95 wrx go for gold Im pretty sure your be ok if your turbo was warn it would smoke or be under powered but I take it it still pulls like a trooper.

98% of turbo failure is down to oil contamination not running dump valve less so aslong as the cars healty so will be the turbo.

Regards

Dave

Jacko4130 15 January 2013 07:52 PM

I can't see a 18 year old turbo thats seen 96k lasting long on its own under boost let alone with added pressure..

The Rig 18 January 2013 11:40 PM

well, feck it ive decided im gonna go for it LOL

I presume i just remove the d/v and bung the pipe that goes from the d/v to the hose that connects to the intercooler etc, i`ll reset the battery just as an anal precaution LOL and will update in a mths time with my turbos popped any cheap ones about LOL

cheers

toneh 19 January 2013 08:51 AM

If it pops with your DV delete the chances are it was gonna pop anyway
And there are loads of cheap td05,s about now

The general opinion is td is tougher will withstand dv delete a lot better than vf turbos

Btw I've been running without one for as long as I can remember
With lc / and sometimes anti lag and its still not broke ;)

Paben 19 January 2013 05:38 PM

The OP's main question was about noise elimination. I run a 321T DV less and on gear changes it warbles even at low revs, warbles and squawks at mid revs and howls and screeches on boost at high revs. Bit like a bird zoo gone mad. Quiet it's not, and when I feel more enthused (i.e. warmer) a recirc is going on.:thumb:

Lol , got side tracked and missed the noise part
Yes for minimum noise go back to recirc
You're right about still getting noise with delete
Mine probably makes more noise now flutter / chirp type sounds than it did with a pssssh DV

wrx271 19 January 2013 06:16 PM

This is the noise of a recirc with rcm intake listen around 19secs before the bang bang I quite like it

Sorry bout the filming blame the wife

jayallen 19 January 2013 07:00 PM

I've run a few different turbos with no DV's including TD04 and 5, VF35 and VF34

A great sound imo, this is my old 20G
