Given up with getting the blob dials to work for now, but I have tweaked the OE dials - no green light anymore, just need to get some LEDs to make them less orange and more white:norty:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v5...ps4202adfc.jpg

Note that the ABS light is no longer on:thumb:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v5...ps64658bcd.jpg

Also, did some more work on the a-pillar which is now completely blended - and at a fraction of the £50 of a nomad 60mm a-pillar pod - just need to order some more black plasti-dip for the A, B and C pillars.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v5...ps541ce1e2.jpg

Next job is to mount the PSI3 into the top pod, that will also be painted in plasti-dip:D

JonMc 19 February 2013 08:05 PM

Had a slightly more productive day today. Swapped the front discs over so they are now on the right sides, and while I was there I managed to remove the front ABS sensors so another few grams saved:D

Started to replace some of the blue hose, all of the vacuum and washer hose is now red.

In a bit of a dilemma now though. I had someone lined up who was going to let me use a ramp so I could swap out the rear trailing arms and brake lines - at the same time I was going to swap out the master cylinder/servo and finish of the bias valve plumbing but he's gone incommunicado so I'm now stuck for somewhere to finish those jobs off - need a ramp to get decent access for pressing the rear hub bushes out and leveraging the trailing arm nuts:(

martin850 19 February 2013 10:38 PM

Nice job on the pod Jon will look spot on when plasticoated.

JonMc 20 February 2013 07:59 AM

It's proving to be too popular - the black and gun metal are both out of stock:wonder:

JonMc 20 February 2013 12:03 PM

Some goodies arrived today - 4AWG amp wiring kit to use as a base for the battery relocation wiring - it's cheaper to buy this lot and throw the extra cables away than to buy lengths of 4 AWG cable:wonder:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v5...psb65a205e.jpg

Also got an old grounding kit lying around so I've bought a distribution block to help with fitment of that:norty:

Just need to decide now whether to make a battery tray out of some sheet and angle aluminium I have in the garage, or to buy one:wonder:

Roll-on some warmer weather:thumb:

martin850 20 February 2013 12:36 PM

How long untl they have some blac in stock?

Also I'm pretty sure there was someone in the members for sale section that has an alloy battery tray for sale :wonder:

Don't know - it comes and goes. Alloy trays are pricey when you consider I can make one for under a fiver:norty:

Decided to do some more work on the dash today which was slow because it so 'kin cold out -3 most of the day. I traded my old carbon triple gauge pod for a top pod for the PSI3 although it was missing the metal bracket in the pic below...

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v5...ps4c070374.jpg

Didn't think it would be too much of an issue until I started trying to fit it

The bracket not only fits the accessory to the pod, but also the pod to the dash:wonder:

So I grabbed some sheet ali out of the garage and started:thumb:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v5...psa2120a52.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v5...psb1075717.jpg

More trimming to follow and then to make the bracket to attach it all to the dash before getting hold of some black plastidip to paint it all:norty:

JonMc 22 February 2013 02:13 PM

A little work to trim the 2 side brackets that mount the PSI3 and top pod, and then make the mounting frame for the dash...

Trial fit in the dash...

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v5...pse9df1d21.jpg

Pod fitted :D

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v5...psa18dfc26.jpg

And the the dash slowly coming back together with the pocket below the stereo now also fitted:thumb:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v5...ps0f15adef.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v5...ps433e6201.jpg

And finished...

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v5...ps02300de7.jpg

Just need to find somewhere that does the dash LED kits:wonder:

Wow that looks as near as OEM, cracking job :notworthy: Must be the week for fitting pods as I finally got around to fitting your old pod into my car. Looks much nicer than my old A pillar pod :)

IanPaskin 22 February 2013 06:37 PM

Very neat work, what diameter is your steering wheel?

Love it mate . How you find keeping flock clean?

JonMc 22 February 2013 07:54 PM

Absolute PITA mate, and a bit of it is coming off:(

I use a lint roller which is fine on the flatter bits but no good on the complex curves:thumb:

sonic93 22 February 2013 08:12 PM

Is it really .I really like the look of it but i would be stressing trying to clean it all time.We should do a detail session soon good weather be here soon.

JonMc 22 February 2013 08:15 PM

I've just stocked up on snow-foam and wheel cleaner - tried it on the front wheels when I swapped the brakes around and it works a treat, just need to add some rimwax but the axel stands started creaking because of the slope of the drive:eek:

Need to get some darker 8x17's thou' and some coilovers, after I've fitted the turbo and paid for another remap:D

jura11 22 February 2013 10:29 PM

tubbytommy 22 February 2013 11:17 PM

looks good jon but i have to ask, why didnt you fit blob sti dials? as these have a centre rev counter and shift light.

good work though

They were WRX gauges so no shift light, but the centre rev counter was a big plus. The problem was the water temp gauge was faulty and if I swapped the fuel/water set from my bug gauges the fitment for needles were different. My red needles home made, the blob gauges are OE and they are noticably different side-by-side:(

Not a lot done this weekend, just repaired by RCM induction kit (I needed to fit and tap the MAF threads after the old screw heads snapped of an I had to drill them out). I also have another K&N and a Japspeed MAF pipe. The quality of that pipe is shocking with the MAF mounting threads about 2mm out compared with the MAF holes - so I've modded the MAF holes to fit that too:D

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v5...pseff975ea.jpg

Just need to decide which one and sell the other - currently I'm swaying towards the bigger one:norty:

Then while that car has no Tax or MOT and therefore not being used, I can get started on this lot:D

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v5...psa9863c73.jpg

I have a lot more red hose to go in, inlet and rocker covers to be painted wrinkle black (and maybe the header tank too:wonder:) and then oil catch can, MAF pipe and FMIC pipework to be powder coated satin black.

Got a set of STI pinks and VF34 to fit along with a TGV delete. While I'm under the bonnet I'm going to relocate the battery to the boot, fit a grounding kit, make a bracket to mount the OE recirc valve with the FMIC, get a non-aircon alternator bracket, remove the aircon rad an fit the new alloy rad, red alloy pulleys and sort the leaking rocker cover:thumb:

bioforger 04 March 2013 07:29 PM

Tart :) Nice updates.

martin850 05 March 2013 07:34 AM

Doesn't sound like much left then Jon, should be finished by the next meet :lol1:

JonMc 17 March 2013 09:06 PM

Didn't get much done last weekend as I was doing stuff on other people's cars, so made up for it a little this weekend by making the battery tray:D

Prototype number 1, had an idea in my head but after a quick go I wasn't happy so I've scrubbed this one although I could make it work if I wanted to...

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v5...ps06993c4c.jpg

So off to the new improved version now that I had made some improvements in my head about how to do it:D

The first cut...

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v5...ps6ea5986e.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v5...psc67daae2.jpg

A few cuts and folds later...

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v5...psdba2c09e.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v5...ps6e40f3b0.jpg

A bit more metal added and some rods fixed...

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v5...psf19e743a.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v5...ps27d799fb.jpg

And then the fixing plates added...

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v5...ps7df2981c.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v5...ps4c70ff8f.jpg

And finally assembled:D

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v5...pseee58160.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v5...ps793ed721.jpg

Just need a dry day so I can drill the boot floor and attach the rivnuts so I can mount it, then I'll run the wiring through:D
