What engine upgrades for a daily 300-350bhp?
I have a 2000turbo its running at 270bhp currently (tuned at Powerstation), now the headgasket has blown so im going to be taking the engine out to replace this.
I've been advised to replace the big end shells while I have the engine out the car and this got me thinking. To run a safe 300-350bhp on a daily car, what engine work would you require. Im not talking about the bolt on mods TD05, FMIC, Injectors etc as there is plenty information on that on the site already, im talking about internal and engine mods. Are the pistons good for this, headgasket I am still reviewing as may be fitting V4 STI heads. I know that to achieve that sort of power ill need a further remap, bigger turbo (assuming I have the standard td04) My intention is to get it running again and work on the handling first to enjoy the power, but while the engine is out it would be a good opportunity to strengthen the lump to be able to bolt on and re-map for some safe power down the line. Thoughts?? |
Just buy a JDM 2.0 bottom end.

A newage bottom end I should have said :)

How many miles has it done? You could fit race bearings, have a slight rebore and fit forged pistons and rods, then if your heads have standard size studs, have an uprated stud set fitted.
Should be ok then. |

Or just break sell all the parts and buy my classic running 310/310 daily runner in excellent condition just a thought mate

To be honest the newage bottom end seems the best idea, im not going to be smashing 400bhp or building a season race car so if they are good for it then that is something worth considering.
I can see what you mean alcazar about re-building the engine that I currently have, but I dont want to go balls out on the budget. |
For a bit more than the price of a new age sti short engine you could forge your engine, you then have a new built engine which will be far better than a second hand sti engine.
