Dual band 802.11n - can it do 40MHz on 5GHz and 20Mhz on 2.4GHz simultaneously?
 

As title. Our 2.4GHz band is congested as I have three wireless routers on non overlapping channels to cover the site, and our neighbour has one that I can just detect which overlaps the wifi area of the house I use least. In my new lounge where I'll mostly use my laptop, I'll need to add a fourth, but I was thinking of getting a dual band router since my laptop card has 5GHz ability (although only 300Mbps) and I guess in future more of my devices will. Since there is nothing in the 5GHz band I could channel bond to 40MHz to get 300Mbps link speed instead of more typical 130 or 144 on the 2.4GHz band. Since my network is gigabit wired and the wireless is a massive bottleneck to my local server I'd like to speed things up.

Yes:

Asus RT-N66U does both 5Ghz and 2.4Ghz at the same time, and yes it channel bonds too (I have it enabled on both frequencies). All the ports are gigabit too :cool:

It also has proper length aerials, which I think does make a difference: Mathematicaly for 2.4Ghz a full wavelength aerial should be about 12.3cm...guess how long these are!

I had this router to take over from my useless Virgin superhub which had 3cm long PCB strips glued inside its case for aerials...it wasn't even properly omnidirectional :facepalm:

Take not though 5ghz range isn't as good.

It will be used with clear line of sight up to 13m horizontally and through non-foil backed plasterboard and 22mm floor boards to 2m vertically. In this house, each router does about two rooms horizontally and the ones above. Way too much stone, and in the new bit, foil insulation galore.
