I would have come and driven but dont think the car will be ready and I dont tend to make a very good spectator. I like to be out there doing it.

So far I have only booked the 17th March and tend to only book the events one at a time. I am aiming to do Oulton Park, Bedford and Brands during this year so keep you eyes open in here and feel free to join in. If you have any you would like to do let us know and some of us may be interested.:thumb:

GezP 07 January 2013 07:13 AM

Ill see how funds are for it mate. Apart from the initial cost of the track, how much cash would you suggest in having pete.

Its totally random on how much it will cost.
If you allow for fuel consumption at around 5mpg and check the track length you will know by how many laps you want to do how much it will cost.
I get through £200 to £300 worth

I understand there are db limitations on tracks. How strict are they? I'll need to use an iphone app to see what mines is first.

105Db@3/4 revs = Cadwell park

Budgie 15 January 2013 05:33 PM

Thats right Chet, and they are strict
If you fail the static test you wont get on track
And they have a drive by test also
Best is to get it checked first

Please do not rely on a simple app and an iPhone. Contact anyone of the msv tracks and they offer free sound testing. I had mine checked for curiosity reasons and the guy even joked about having people come up and fail the test and then spend ten minutes arguing that they tested it with an app on their phone. The guy chuckled as he said it

Oh and for the record its tested at 4.5k and held there not 3-4k

Make a call to one of the tracks and take a trip to it so you have a definite result so you won't be disappointed on the day

Also for the record the hatch sti standard system makes 79db on static test 22db under Bedfords limit so the Hayward and Scott cat back system will be put on and another trip to see what it makes

M444GY 16 January 2013 10:27 AM

i need to test mine :) i do have a bung though :thumb:

a5h 16 January 2013 09:10 PM

Im gona see if i can come along as a spectator. And if Budgie is willing to take me on a few passanger laps who am i to say no!

chet123 17 January 2013 10:23 AM

out of curiousity which exhausts/brands tend to pass, i know it can vary from car to car though.

Rich well spotted - I have a bung somewhere in the garage. do they just quieten the car or also impact gas flow therefore reducing power. I've never had to use mine before.

Arkwright 17 January 2013 06:45 PM

My classic has a 3" decat system with just a large rear silencer (straight through though)very similar looking to the quieter H&S silencer

this one

http://www.haywardandscott.com/subar...3-backbox.html

And it makes around 90 - 100 decibels

I`ll think you`ll find as a general rule a decat and small rear boxes with 4" outlets will need a bung.

Hope this helps :thumb:

Cobra do a track friendly system, but the Revolution system comes highly rated. Milltek also do a quieter system and as you work through that list the price will go up, but the Cobra system is a 3" O.D. system, I believe the other 2 are true 3", ie 3" I.D.:thumb:

can someone come by the shop with a noise meter so i can test the wagon :thumb:

got some 888s for my 17s delivered this week to ftw

will bring some normal tyres to just incase the wether is ****e :(

mags

stevie1982 20 January 2013 05:42 PM

Mags there are different sound frequency weights A, C and Z, depending on the meter you have it may show in the wrong weight to what the actual track uses. When I was talking to the guy doing the reading he said that their readers cost in excess of 2k or something stupid so I'm not sure what use a 20-60 quid meter from the likes of maplin would be useful. Brands and Silverstone are a part of msv and offer free sound checks, static and then they will do the drive by with you in the car.

To anyone wondering I would suggest popping along and having a proper reading done. For what it costs in petrol and time could save a lot of money and disappointment on the day
