petrol smell - not from cold weather ?

On the last few start-ups there has been a smell of petrol inside the car.I have seen on here that it can happen in cold weather but my car is kept in a garage and the temp outside hasnt been below +8 . I have the intercooler off and i noticed a slight bit of liquid inside where the pipe joins to the front of the intercooler. It smells of petrol (allough i have i blocked nose) , what would cause that ?

I am putting the intercooler on tomorow and will make sure the clamp is tight , but should that liquid even be there ? Is that likley to be where the smell was comming from ? Im going to have bother sourcing the smell after tomorow as i fitted a turbo blanket and i am expecting it to stink for a while.

A few years ago i had a similar problem can smell petrol inside the car and outside! Checked engine for leaks not a thing then found out the petrol cap kept coming loose springs in the cap had worn! Replace with new one sorted the problem out! But dont know if this is your case though :wonder: Good luck sorting it out

If it's a bugeye then it's definitely worth checking the pipes detailed in this thread: https://www.scoobynet.com/general-te...ell-issue.html

It wasn't super-cold when mine started to smell, but the problem was solved when the pipes were replaced.

My bugeye hasnt even seen a frost this year though , but i will see if the smell is still there after i put the i/c back on. If it is its a job for my mechanic im afraid , im pushing my knoledge as it is !

What about the petrol type fluid inside the i/c pipe ? Anyone know what its about ?

Seems ok after puting i/c back on , but only been out once and it hasnt been cold . The two metal pipes that run along the i/c smell of petrol too , what are they for ?
