It appears that MS are releasing XBOX 2 in September. It is going to be a low-cost machine possibly using an AMD processor instead of Intel. New suppliers are being sourced for parts such as the DVD which is currently costing MS $120, PC DVD drives are only $40 in the US. They have predicted sales of 3.5 million this year which is 1 million short of pre-release predictions.

MS are paying $120 for the DVD drive in the xbox?

Where did this little gem come from???
(Sorry, I have rather a lot of doubts about that)

Check this link for the full story Digitimes

The $120 was copied from another forum which I notice has now been amended.

Urm I don't think it will actually be a new xbox, what they're probably doing is just reducing cost of production. The playstation had a new laser after a few months so I would think it would be a similar thing to that. Just Xbox v2 rather then Xbox2

Sony's PS3 mutterings are a kneejerk reaction to the gamecube and xbox. The mutterings also said, "1000 times the processing power"...

It's all mind games. Don't get sucked in. Be happy with the current gen.

Nick.

Sounds like they're doing what Sony did with the PS by integrating components etc to reduce the production costs.

Could also be an answer to the current mod chips that are doing the rounds.
