super unleaded or unleaded

recently bought a uk turbo and the guy i bought it off has only just said that its been mapped to run on super unleaded but iv put normal unleaded in it twice now. is this ok to carry on with normal unleaded? seems to run fine with it in.

It might run on normal unleaded ok for a bit, then you might get "detonation" which is a slight change in the ignition timing.

If he says it's mapped for super, then stick with that.

i will put super in from now on then,as i use different garages shall i just get the highest grade in that garage am i right?

yes v power with a light dose of nf. gives a bit more kick and safe gaurds from damaging the engine under boost.

alcazar 14 December 2012 06:00 PM

It all depends on what it was mapped for.

What age is the car?

I'd stick to either Shell V-Power, or Tesco Momentum.
Easso Super at a pinch.

If you MUST use 95 octane stuff, stay off boost.

IF it's been mapped for higher octane fuel, using lower octane stuff WILL result in "det" (knock), and that is the one thing that can be relied on to damge your engine very quickly.

car is a 1998 uk turbo.only recently bought it.

So does it have an aftermarket ecu? Or a daughter baord fitted?

Because if not, it hasn't ever been remapped:( The 97/8 ecu's aren't mappable.

Bean1984 14 December 2012 07:12 PM

Mine hasnt even been mapped but for the last year its always had tesco momenteum. Subarus aint for the faint hearted mate. Dont cut corners and you should have a good run. As already stated try not to use normal petrol as it ends up as det which normally leads to bye bye engine

ryanscooby25 14 December 2012 07:29 PM

its had daughterboard fitted and mapped by ecutek

ryanscooby25 14 December 2012 07:30 PM

this is my first turbo iv owned 2 sports though,iv recently got rid of my clio sport to get this turbo.i love the power on it :)

Fair enough. Ask the mapper about running on less than whatever it was mapped for.
Also find out what it WAS mapped for;)

The seller will know who.
