as you are aware from my previous posting, I have experienced problems with my underpants.. sorry underseal. This was rectified? at the last interim service and was due I was told beacause it was raining wahen they put the stuff on!! Got a service arranged for Monday am where the subject will be broached again (won't tell you where though in case the IM Thought Police come round and duff me using baseball bats and pillows!!).

IM say that it is not a warranty item - my legal people say otherwise - as IM have authourised other warranty repairs on underseal then they seem to be mistaken in their view and the issue will need to be decided expensively due to the attitude of one person at IM (is this gentle enough so far?) http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif

The warranty manager (this is NOT necessarily the person mentioned above)has been and put the alledged IM stand that they do not accept that the underseal is a warranty item anymore?! we shall see!!

Is that an acceptable set of words?? I have tried my best!!

Can someone please explain what this thing with the underseal is? Is it actually not sticking to the underside / totally missing or what?

I've gathered that some / all of the imports don't have it as standard, and that some get done by the importers... but is it falling off????

Dear oxwain,

the underseal is applied to the wheelarches by Subaru dealers before sale and at yearly intervals. What happens is that after a while baldy patches appear (a bit like the top of my head) and if you tug at it (the undereal and not my bonce) you can remove little strips of it). Underneath the Sube UK underseal appears to be a proper hermetic barrier that is applied at the time of manufacture so maybe the stuff that is put on is for "customer confidence" purposes only, however it doesn't appear to engender a lot of confidence in some customers by the looks of the BB. I will continue to have mine done because by doing so preserves the anti- corrosion warranty and I think there is probably some benefit by having a thorough steam clean (which is part of the service) to remove any residual muck and road salt.

It's probably better not to underseal an import as it can hide potential problems. I ask the engineers to check my scoob for corrosion or possible problems every time it's in for something.

If you want to you can buy gallons of it in halfords...
