Rear window demister repair
My rear window demister does not work because a previous owner must have had a large sticker in the back window and when they have removed it it has broken every wire except the top one, can someone recommend a way of fixing this? I tried using this stuff off ebay but it doesn't stick to the glass http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/CONDUCTIVE...item2a267e10a0
it just beads up on the window because its not thick enough:wonder: the breaks in the wires are between roughly 2mm up to about 20mm |
If the sticker has removed every trace of the element then the conductive paint will not have anything to bond to, hence the beading.
Maybe possible to use something like glass bond first to give a bonding layer between glass and paint. |
IMHO the stuff you have is fine for a 2mm gap, but a 20mm one would be pushing it a bit I think.
Prob best just to pay the excess and get a new one on the insurance |
Thanks for the replies fellas, I have ordered some conductive glue, i'm gonna have a go at cutting some thin strips of copper foil and glue them into place across the gaps, hopefully without making it look ****:D I don't really want to go down the insurance route if I can help it.

Have you looked into a new screen off a scrapper?
Any decent car windscreen place would swap yours for a replacement for about £50 cash in hand;) And rear screens don't fetch big money: I gave mine away when I went to a rear wash-wipe. |
hi m8, i brought some silver paint on stuff from one of the big electrical retailers, you can use it on all sorts of electrical boards ect.
|
Might work, but I question if it will carry the current the demister does.

only reason i suggested it was when looking to repair the board in my speedo the chap in maplins said he had used it for a rear screen & silver is meant to be a good conductor.
