Methanol as an additive

It's become popular to use methanol/petrol mix these days especially with those with multi-map facility. The popular mix ratio seems to be 20%
Are there advantages of using much lower concentrations say, 3-5% as you might with an octane booster, without the need for any map adjustment?

Methanol as Octane booster I wouldn't use, just due most common ingredient of the Octane booster is,MTBE, ETBE,Ethanol or Toluene

Methanol lowers the calorific value of the fule, without mapping it will kill your engine.
