Nice car

juggers 03 December 2012 01:34 PM

Well worth the money!

ProCoe 04 December 2012 10:56 AM

Hi it's me again :-)
Here is the situation on the Subaru, ok.....
It doesn't have FSH as it had had 1 service from new and that wasn't the big service and the book with the stamp in they don't have so I would have to order a new book from Subaru and get the book re stamped and then get a BIG service done so I would then have 2 stamps. It has had 2 owners before the current owner so that makes it 3 owners and also it had to have an engine rebuild as the engine blew which has now invalidated any maunfaturer warranty on the car. There is also no warranty from the garage it's being sold from and is sold as seen as it is being sold as a favour for a friend.
Now the guy has accepted an offer of 18k and that was before I saw the link for the other on here selling for 17,100.
What's your thoughts on this guys?? Would you take a chance if you could get for a lower price or would you stay away and wait for another to come along.
Thanks for your help Simon

fawor 04 December 2012 11:40 AM

2008 was a bargain for that price 9 months ago.
2009 -depends who done rebuild, parts used(why engine blow?),which cambelt they put-410hp should be cosworth etc.
2009 is worth 17k i think ,depends from rebuild
here is nice 22b with 2.35 stroker for 22k:norty:

Hi mate litchfield done the engine rebuild but woudnt do it
Under warranty. So you are saying its not worth 18k but
17k also has no stereo ,tyers are on the limit, And if bought
Got to take it sold as seen..
Is it worth the risk guys????

Thanks everybody.

I'm no legal beagle, but as far as I understand it, if he's a motor trader all that "sold as seen, no warranty, selling it for a friend" guff doesn't cut it anymore, your consumer rights (such as they are) can't be given up. Even putting "trade sale" doesn't release them from their responsibilities, unless you're actually another trader.

'Couse, if he clearly points out possible faults to you (like putting them in writing) and you still bought it, it'd be unreasonable to expect comeback for those problems.

Personally, I'd be didgy about spending so much money on a motor the seller clearly has so little confidence in regardless of warranty. "Selling it for a friend" would be a big red flag for me - if it was a decent motor he'd be selling it legit through the business, with another grand or two on the price for him and his "friend" to share, wouldn't he?

Not sure I'd fancy testing out my consumer rights with some guy whose got the best part of twenty grand of mine in his pocket :)

I wouldn't take a punt with 17k personally.......

urban 04 December 2012 04:01 PM

Since you are now aware of its history, and the fact they're saying 'Sold as seen' means you should probably walk away

Oldun 04 December 2012 04:30 PM

Too much money to take a risk.

Why not get a used 2.5 hatch and get some mods done to it by a reputable tuner, you would then have a car with a warranty.
For example...

Perhaps
But tainted history and a big up front "sold as seen"

Abx 04 December 2012 04:58 PM

Buy a nice 08/09 STI with a few goodies which you'll be able to pick up for 13-14k, leave 4k in the bank and IF the engine lets go you can get it rebuilt, if it doesn't then you still have 4k in the bank.

Yeah from new, but read what he has written

Truss 04 December 2012 05:23 PM

I'd stay well clear.
Just one of a few points; advert says 1 previous owner. Now you've found out differently, there's been 3. I think that alone says a lot about the seller, and it wouldnt be someone i'd be willing to deal with.
