Fastest spooling 420bhp turbo

Hi guys i have a 05sti my current turbo td06-20g doesnt hit 1bar of boost till 3700rpm looking for a quicker spooling turbo for 420bhp

Mrchips 26 November 2012 10:03 PM

Sc40 billet is a goodun

Scooby B 26 November 2012 10:04 PM

SC42.

MartynJ 26 November 2012 10:10 PM

SC42 Billet is an awesome turbo, spooling faster than the sleeve bearing turbo you currently have and making more power to boot !

jura11 26 November 2012 11:07 PM

MDX321T on 2.0L STi with AVCS should be great too and will make nice numbers too

SC42 Billet or the MDX321T what do you guys think is the better turbo ?

peter zippy reid 27 November 2012 07:00 AM

Thanks guys

MartynJ 27 November 2012 07:07 AM

You'll of course get a lot of opinion based on experience of one or the other, as very few people will have first hand everyday experience of both.
Even those who map them will struggle to tell you as their experience is very short lived.
To be fair you need to compare apples with apples, so if you want a really fair comparison, you need to look at the MDX321H vs SC42 or MDX321T vs SC46.
I have sold a fair few SC range turbos of all sizes and have been very happy with all of them.
Maybe it's time someone dug out their asbestos handed mechanic and ran all 4 turbos on one car on the same day :thumb:

wrx fifer 27 November 2012 11:38 AM

as above peter these two get great reviews SC42 Billet or the MDX321T

peter zippy reid 27 November 2012 06:57 PM

Thanks grant my current turbo is ok just takes a bit to spool

Trippie 27 November 2012 10:07 PM

Im running the sc42 360 BHP and at 3700RPM im already at 1.8 BAR :D, 1.0 BAR is just over 3000RPM but surely depends on what supporting mod's you have
with it.:thumb:

Sure does, in my experience for instance, a good quality uprated inlet hose to the turbo makes a big difference.
On a stock inlet with an SC42 Billet, it took 20% meth to get here.

Attachment 57195

Replaced the inlet with a silicone uprated one and remapped for VPower only and saw this,

Attachment 57196

Unfortunately we were ran out of pump pressure meaning the meth map had to wait for a minute. Suspect we'll see 460+ on 20% this time round.

Test on one car this should help in lots of people in deciding what turbo is good to go:thumb:

Selling your 2005 STI and buying a 2005 Evo is my honest answer, presently owning neither!

An Evo IX with an exhaust and tune can reach 1.7 bar at 2500 RPM and do 400+ BHP on most dynos, with a stock rev limit of 7600 RPM.

Give it some consideration if you haven't, the power band on the 4G63 with MIVEC is on a different planet to a single scroll EJ207, but doesn't do the burble.

Can't stick the way they drive myself.
I think the Evo 9 turbo is just about the worst stock fitment unit I have ever driven. It's like a switch, all or nothing with no progression.
Fit an S205B and then you're talking, nicer, smoother, more economical and 500bhp to boot :D

john banks 27 November 2012 10:48 PM

I'm surprised, I thought it was fantastic, maybe it was wastegate mapping, but the part throttle was lovely and progressive, I found it beautifully throttle steerable, of course S-AYC helps, although I know some hate it. I didn't change it to a bigger unit as I loved the responsiveness from 3000 RPM of the stock unit for a road car used on narrow roads in low gears.

Which car is this on? Stock inlet from a newage or classic? What other supporting mods do you have, looks like a good result.

wrx fifer 28 November 2012 11:47 AM

thats very interesting about the inlet hose, can this be achieved by any version? i.e a £250 hose or a £100 version as there are many, i fitted a cheaper £60 one a few cars back and split in in half and inserted staniless pipe to prevent any suction to hose, worked fine but dont know about figures with this method.

It was a Classic running a 2.1 stroker, injectors, front mount, RCM headers and decat system. My advice regarding the intake hose is use a well known brand, Samco, Perrin or SFS would be the main ones.

Hi,

difficult for me to comment as we designed the SC42 for the 2.0 ltr or 2.1 stroked cars for quick spool, therefore I am biased. ;)

One thing is though it works and its not fussy about what mods are on the car, OK the modded correctly car will be better but on a standard car its still brilliant. :D

To be fair though I have not seen any graphs of the MD.billet. :wonder:

One extra thing is the SC42 is a true direct fit, bolts straight on without the need to chillel lumps off the block or bellhousing, comes with new oil feed pipe, oil drain pipe, water pipes, banjos and washers, also comes with up and down pipe gaskets. :thumb:

As Martyn said earlier a simple upgrade like the inlet pipe for a silicon one, not a cheap one they suck in, a Perrin one or SFS will help as a supporting mod.

cheers

The SC42 seems like a great turbo. I'm very tempted to get one fitted to my car.

I have a 2006 Spec C, is there anything to be gained from changing the inlet hose on that?

wrx271 28 November 2012 04:39 PM

Hi,

the MD is a great turbo, don’t know what the billet one is like, never seen any graphs and I don’t know if the latest ones need bits of block or bell-housing relieving but certainly the pre billet versions did. ;)

SC 42 Billets in stock at £1295.00 + vat. :thumb:
