Steering Rack gaitors - removal of track rod end ???

Not long had tracking setup,i know if you mark the nut and dont move it much etc you can get nearly back the same geometry etc but, can the steering rack gaitor be stretched over the track rod end ?

or has anyone done it o.k, maybe use a hair drier to warm the rubber up and use plenty of lube LOL hmm, wropng forum i feel ha ha

cheers

If you don't want to have another geometry check/adjust just count the number of turns to remove the trackrod ends and then after fitting the gaitors wind the trackrods back on the same amount of turns that it took to take them off.

yeah,i get that and have done that before, but the slightest mm out and it wont be set to how it was, so rather than worrying about 1/4 turn here or there wondered if anyone has successfully done it over the track rod end

cheers

I know what your saying mate I just can't see the gaitors going over the trackrod end. I can't remember are the rubber or plastic? If they are rubber you may get lucky

No mate.
I've tried to do it this way myself, they stretch a fair old way, and make you think that it's gonna work.

Then it lets go and you have to go and get another.

Track rod off unfortunately , but as above, you really won't be far off if any as long as you mark it all, and on the plus side if its only recently been set up, they shouldn't be too tight:thumb:

sound, cheers bud,if you have tred and they split, i will do it the conventional way LOL
