Personally I've never really liked the so called 'rock legends' of that era ie The Stones, Queen etc. But then I've never really liked rock music.

I would rather have the music of that era to any other, The Stones, Led Zep, The Who, Pink Floyd. Beats any of today's X factor p1sh anyday of the week. |

I'm not a big fan of The Who, but the rest of the list is for me. Add some more modern day stuff like Muse, Placebo, Seasick Steve, Killers etc. and you'll have my playlists. X Factor plastic can go and get lost. Oh, yeah, they usually are only about for a few years anyway. Cheers Ian |

Just because I don't like rock music doesn't mean I like the sort of sh7te the x factor churns out, two people here seem to have jumped to that conclusion. Nothing could be further from the truth, I hate that sort of stuff with a passion. I do like the odd tune by Led Zep (actually have their greatest hits album) and Pink Floyd. Queen in particular I have never seen the fascination with and to a greater extent the Stones. My musical tastes from the 'older era' would be more along the lines of Ska, reggae, early Motown, soul etc. Just the way my brain/ears are wired up I suppose, they just aren't excited by rock music (on the whole) |

I have similar problem. The elements in Rock e.g. 'rebel without any reasson', 'undue darkness' and 'mindless destruction' don't connect with me at all. Sex, drugs and rock-n-roll doesn't sound cool but manic to me, but then again, I am not the sweet child of this culture. Saying that, occasional half-sonorous rock numbers automatically engage me with their acceptable level of darkness and noise to the point of pleasure and pain, but not to over-project the death, horror and destruction. I like some classics from Queen and Nirvana etc. but most heavy metal is nothing but unruly and painful to my ears. Not into The Rolling Stones and many great rock bands that a lot of people seem to appreciate. I consider myself uncultured in Rock, whereas most Motown, soul, Jazz and Reggae instantly draw me in, regardless of the fact that my ears never became familiar to these sounds either; from my day number one on this earth. I DO NOT like when rock guitarists break their guitars on stage into pieces, that's just insane! I understand that breaking anything or everything is their second nature plus part of their Rock performance strategy, but imo they should treat their instrument with utmost respect. |
This might be more up your street then. ;)
