6 speed in classic
I am about to do the conversion, but wondered what people have done with the gaiter as think I will have to cut mine. I have a my00.
Have people used the gaiter from a later model and somehow adapted it? Thanks |
Mine uses a leather gaitor. It fastens nicely about the lift up collar, just below where you lift.
|
Mine is a straight fit :) 1995 WRX :)
|
Its a tight fit mate, but it does go through, bit soap or washing liquid and it fits, i thought i would have to cut mine but never, it looks very factory fitted.

Just noticed yours is a my00 so probably different, the leather ger gaiter from the 6 speed should fit.
|
What's needed for this combination please?
|
Mine is an aftermarket gaitor, picked up for around £7.50, red leather.
It was slightly short, so I unpicked the stitching around the bbottom. I then removed the old gaitor and the clips holdingh it in place, offered up the new and marked the places where holes needed to be. I burned them through the leather with a red-hot skewer, (it stops the leather tearing). The gaitor was then passed over the little studa the clips were on, and I placed 10mm squares of 2mm thick styrene over them and dabbed styrene solvent onto each one. It looks factory fitted once turned over and hasn't come loose. |
Sorry. I asked that question while sleepy. What is required for the change to 6 speed please. Does it require a remap too? Thanks.
|
Yes it should be remapped, as the load will be different, from the new ratios.
|
Thanks, but what parts are needed?
|
Box, linkages, gear lever and knob
Rear diff. Drive shafts. Clutch master cylinder. Starter. POSSIBLY gearbox support cradle. |
i hate the 6 speed ratios myself.
Make sure you drive one before hand to check you find them ok befor eyou get any nasty surprises |
