Mapping for non Subarus

Do mappers specialise in a single brand or are they specialist mappers that do all cars?

I know nothing about this subject but £300ish for something that makes my car more efficient and quicker is an attractive proposition, especially as this is the first year my insurance premium wouldnt be effected by having one done.

Specifically I want to get this done to my 2.0l Turbo Mercedes B class but am nervous about sending it to any old cowboy that could end up ruining it.

Speak to Duncan@Race Dynamix or Simon@JGM they're now mapping other cars not just Subaru and think your MB is possible to map

I've remember when I want to get mapped our Megane and he want just flash the ECU without the checking the for AFR etc,I've pulled out and this "mapper" what I want for £300

Really speak here to mappers which now starting to map Diesel or Petrol turbo engines

Thanks, but ideally Im looking for someone who has experience in mapping other cars rather than specialising in one marque and now starting branching out. I have read that many have had the B200 Turbo remapped in the states but there is a right way and many very wrong ways to do it with some stories that make you wince. Not sure what these 'ways' are exactly but it has made me very cautious.

What does this mean?

Hi there

Those people have experience on other marques cars and they're experienced in mapping

What does this means:

Our experience has been with one company which offering mapping services only for Renault and we are been very disappointed with this experience

This mapper said, what we are want for £300,we are said,we are want lot more than flash with generic map

Really sometimes worth to speak those mappers:thumb:

Most other cars just have a better rom file to upload with stock parts that give you approx 20-60hp dependant on vehicle, there is a big list of base rom maps somewhere its a quick job imo and just a flash job so £300 is a bit keen imo.
diesels are the best for this.

There is also these

Basically he's saying 300£ is overpriced as its just a flash map taken from a huge list of stock maps that's already been tailored for most cars apart from Scooby, evos and the likes :thumb:

SRSport 21 November 2012 09:20 PM

What should you get for £300? I have seen some companies offer them for £200 but they are usually accompanied by very bad reviews. In the USA I believe that the automatics can increase from 193bhp to 218bhp (+25bhp) whereas the manual (mine) can be taken to 238bhp (+35bhp) along with improved fuel economy which is very appealing.

Sorry what does this mean? There is a standard Mercedes B200T remap out there that remappers just use?

Works for petrol and diesel.

And basically yes, for most normal cars there is a huge list that gives you a basic map for the stock car as car manufactures don't tune them enough and you just put a flash file on to you're car. Without going to the extreme process like the scoobys as they require more work.

SRSport 21 November 2012 09:37 PM

Thanks again. i think only 85 B200 Turbo manuals were ever sold, which has proved difficult finding aftermarket parts as its not worth anyones while. Would this mean that there is less chance of finding a generic map for it? What is a flash file and is it different to other maps?

Thanks Ant,
just having a look through your site what is the difference between the

After Market ECU tuning
"Please do not confuse us with
generic file downloads / chip tuning,
we write our own individual files for
each and every vehicle."

and

the General OEM ECU Tuning

Can the Mercedes UCE be accessed without the use of the STAR system as I thought Mercedes claim that only the STAR is capable of safely changing the ECU.

Blind leading the blind :facepalm2:

Ring a mapper ie duncan or simon and talk to them, There are a lot of so called companies flying around with laptops flashing standard maps onto ecus, As we all know every turbo has its own charateristics so these types of maps are not ever going to be 100% spot on as they were mapped on one car and saved then flashed onto yours ect,
The mappers like duncan will start with a base map then adjust it to suite the way your car responds ect ect thus achieving the best results possible :thumb:

After searching, most places charge around £300 for it and IMO I bet it's just a flash map that's already there, but some say it requires a day:cuckoo: suppose they have to justify the fee lol.

Like vw Audi etc, there is ready to run maps available for these to open up the engine and make most of the parts with better fuel, throttle, torque etc. mappers who do this is a easy job and they have the file already to upload or is not hard to get for them via certain forums/databases etc.
But it's upto you to pay the asking price as subarus take a lot more work at the same price, but you see what I'm getting at :thumb:

It helps if you know before hand a bit of info so you can relate to what somebody's telling you wether it makes sense etc.
And yes subarus take a lot more work etc for mods but oe other makes of cars have a huge list of upload able maps for stock cars, but some also have custom mapping aswell dependant on vehicle and achievements one requires :thumb:

If i want my car mapping i will talk to a mapper.
If i want a house building i will do it myself.
If im ill i will talk to the doctor.
If i want a courrier i will call one (not you)
Do you see a pattern forming there ? Judging by your outbursts maybe not.

What is this ROM that everyone is talking about?

In basic terms it's the map mate ( its the software you make changes to that tells the ecu what to do )

With all due respect, then don't come on here telling him something you obviously don't know f all about and just read and learn:thumb:
And please don't resort to being a smart ar5e unless you want more of what you can't handle.
If I were you I'd leave it as the more you post towards me the more you'll get shown up.

And I'm sorry op :thumb: just don't appreciate people aiming a post towards me that have no clue themselfs :thumb:

We're are just giving the op advice that I know about, that's why he's asking so he knows a bit about it himself and when he enquiries more at least he knows where it at and dosent get taken for a ride as some people are too naive and listen to anything and say oh yes, that's not trolling its advise, that's your excuse every time when you get told something you don't like.

P.s building is you're game so you need no advice there.
If you're I'll you kind of know what's up or you ask family what do you reckon it is etc so you know a little bit for when you go to doctor to make sure they don't dis diagnose you.
Courier,i don't have a courier business anymore so keep up eh!

Addi mate you know this is not the issue , you should not have had that thread deleted , because IMHO it was important
You're singing the praises of mappers , when you yourself reported back from having said you had spoken with you're mapper And came back with totally wrong info ( not a little bit , a lot wrong )
Now you may pass this off as confusion , but you came back with specific comments , and in no way are the result of confusion
Now like we said , I have no issues with you at all , but someone is talking total bull , And now it's been covered up and makes it look even more dubious

best to do your research mate :thumb:

Ask addi about the ROM he seems to know a lot :lol1:

Anyway srs now that you have the info, talk to mappers into detail and see what the options are and how they describe what their going to do etc.
That's all for now as I don't want to spoil you're thread as trolls are following me it seems :lol1: :thumb:

SRSport 21 November 2012 11:13 PM

This is interesting. Im not sure what went on before but it confirms my concerns with the varying and contrasting information that is out there, even from so called expert mappers.
With the amount of trouble my car has caused me (not engine related) I really cant afford for a remap to cause any further issues.

I wouldn't say that a generic map would knacker your engine tbh if it's just a upload flash type file which is what I'm talking about which can be had for a lot of cars out there even new 1 year old cars.
If its a custom map which may take a lot longer and adjust everything for your parts and mods like subarus do then I would get a well known specialist in Mercedes if you go down that route, but IMO you don't need that :thumb:
