Another exhaust question

Hi all, I am running a 2005 Blob STI. Except for a nice sounding Afterburner Vortex rear silencer the car is standard.

I am looking to change the exhaust to help free a few horses, especially if / when it gets remapped at a later date.

However, the missus doesn't want the car to be any louder than it currently is. What is the best route to go down?

I realise there are 4 sections of exhaust but if I decat all four sections she will kill me! It also it needs to be able to pas MOT's with flying colours!

Is there a preference as to which sections should be replaced?

Cheers all

for every high there is a low. Changing the exhaust or sections of the exhaust will increase performance and will change the sound of the car.

On a 2005 STI there are 4 sections, back box (which you have already changed), the centre section, 2nd cat pipe and the downpipe. Really its down to preference and performance really. You could go with a centre resonated which wont be as good as a straight through but does help in absorbing the boar from inside the car. Sounds like you have already done worst of the damage by changing the rear box so can't imagine changing another section of the exhaust will make a whole load of difference. I would say go change the centre and 2nd cat pipe keeping the downpipe cat. Its your choice, research and research what you want. Good gains are to be hand changing these bits.

A miltek are supposedly quieter exhausts but a whole lot more money for a whole lot more quality.

p.s. you may need a map after fitting though
