***Help engine stutter at 5k***

Hey guys,

well My bro scooby is a 97 JDM WRX when he boosts and it reaches 5k the engine starts to sutter, really bad he just replace the maff sensors as it was broke, and replaces the fuel fitter, but it still does it, but it was working fine after he sprayed WD40 on the spark plugs and coils, spark plugs was replaces 4 months ago (NGK Platinum) but car been stood, could it be the coils/spark plugs?

coilpacks would defo be the next point of call mate I reckon mate. I had this happen on my blob, and newage coilpacks are supposed to be better than the classic ones!!

its only when high current is being drawn you will feel it, so around 5-7k rpm.

Only problem is it is tough to work out which coilpack is dodgy. people say you can buy one and ycle it around until problem is solved. this is fine until you realise you actually have 2 dodgy coilpacks... haha

Depending on whether you bought a brand new maf of 2nd hand one it's a possibly still the maf specially if been stood happend to a car I used to own a while ago bud.

cheers guys! Loco yeah hes going to try changing the coil packs, yeah scooby it was 2nd hand but it still did it with the old maf mate but it was cracked so he brought another one thinking it could be that

After the coil pack consider a set of magnecor leads. I had the same problem. It turned out to be the coil pack and leads.

scoobyrob2002 17 November 2012 03:25 PM

Cheers mate where could where can we get a set of coils ? magnecor leads i can find on ebay but not coils thanks

You'll need the part number off your old coil pack. My sister use to work for a car parts company and managed to get me a new one for £70.

The easiest way would be to speak to mattybr@poleposition on here. He'll send you what you need. He might even have some nice leads as well :)

scoobyrob2002 17 November 2012 03:55 PM

yeah we know matty as we take are scooby to pole all the time, bro just told me hes not got leads, as its a JDM and its like the newage coils are separate will message matty via facebook :)

I have a jdm sti V4. Thought they were similar unless he's had a newage setup installed.
