Kindle Fire HD Vs Google Nexus 7

Right, very similiar in comparison in both spec and price (whether its a 16 or 32gb). Not interested in any other brand or size.

I've read all the internet reviews but do any of us have either devices if so what are your experiences with them i.e. processing speed, browsing, connections, wi-fi browsing, battery life etc.

Looking for one as a Christmas present but can't decide between the two tablets.

The Kindle Fire HD stands out more but would consider the Nexus. Although one thing which the Nexus has which the Kindle doesnt is the retractable keyboard. This is useful I suppose if using to type long emails or letters. As far as I know the the Kindle doesnt have this option as yet.

Please let us know what your thoughts are. Cheers

I would get the Nexus; with the Kindle you don't get access to the normal Android marketplace, whereas you can install Amazon apps onto the Nexus. With the Nexus updates for the OS will also come directly from Google.

Performance wise I can't comment, but I did read a review stating the 'getting started' process on the Kindle wasn't great.

Nexus without a doubt mainly for same reasons Beef posted.

yep just read another site saying the same. Also the with the Nexus you get a choice of keyboard options which is key. Been on techradar that says it all, very surprised with the Kindle HD reviews. Also the comparisons were had between Kindles dual wifi antennas against Nexus 7, it appeared the further away both machines went from the router the Kindle lost more of a single than the Nexus. Are the dual antennas are as good as they are claimed to be.

Had a play with the kindle fire hd in tesco and wasn't impressed, I'd go with the nexus

Nexus all the way if you want a tablet. But if the keyboard function is important, why buy a tablet? :wonder:

Luddite. So you can type on it, it's obvious. Now, asking why Android keyboards are **** out of the box, that's a question.

The Samsung one that comes with their products is pretty pants, but the Google keyboard is pretty decent.

Personally I use SwiftKey 3 - the best keyboard for Android handsets and tablets. :)

Whilst the Kindle fire HD is a very apt device, its not as flexible as the Nexus 7

Its a bit like running an o/s within an o/s , hard to explain but once you try it you will see.. its smooth but clunky in one go

The Nexus is great :) and being a true android device its very tweakable

My son has a Nexus and uses it all the time. He thinks it's great. Only downside is battery life compared to his iPad 3.
