Ive been away from the subaru scene for a little while but have had many dealings with harvey over the years, a very knowledgable, affable and freindly fellow who was always happy to help anyone and me on several occasions, he will be sorely missed by all that have had dealings with him.
I still carry his business card in my wallet with the funny professions on it, it still makes me giggle when i dig it out. RIP Harvey |
Just heard the terrible news..
Rip Harvey |
Just read this ,RIP Harvey, sadly missed

Thank you everyone for your condolences. Harvey would be very proud and I am extremely touched by your messages. I am still struggling to come to terms with what has happened and I am taking things day by day. For anyone who is interested, Harvey's funeral is to take place on Thursday 22nd November 2012 at 09:45am at Darlington Crematorium.
Thanks Dawn. |

Oh my god. Not owning a Subaru at present I haven't been in here much recently, so I hadn't realised what had happened.
I'm so sorry Dawn, he will be deeply missed ;( Rob |
OMG so sorry to hear that, my sincere condolences Dawn. He was a great man, customers came first for him and his customer service was second to none.
We spent hours exchanging emails and last time we talked was this September. He will be missed |
So sorry to hear this news Dawn, a genuine trustworthy gent who will be missed and never forgotten by a great many people. I'll never forgot how big a smile he put on my face having mapped my car with Bob and again when he sorted it out after a timing belt went. RIP Harvey. My thoughts are with you Dawn.

Bob Rawle and I went to Harvey's funeral to pay our respects yesterday. never a fun do. Having known and dealt with 'H ' over some 10 or 12 years, l felt an obligation. There were a few of us Subaru types there and the hall was overflowing with mourners.
Glad l went to see my mate off on a new journey. He was one of a kind and will be missed by the Subaru community. David APi |

David APi Such a shame to have lost Harvey as he was a nice genuine guy , had a good chat with Dawn having met her before when they called in to my workshop on there travels. I am glad I made the journey up to see him off. Sir Harvey Smith , RIP |
I booked a flight last week into Manchester from Munich and sorted out hotels. And then the date of the funeral was changed at the last moment. And it was all too late to change anything so I made the journey anyway and headed south instead of to Darlington.
I was very disappointed not to be there on Thursday to see him off. But I could not find the time or money to get another set of flights at short notice. But circumstances beyond my control, so philosophical about it. His harness bar and his PS3 Phomular are in my car as a reminder of him and I will visit Darlington in the spring to pay my respects. Above all else I am glad that from what David and Ian have said many turned up and he had a good send off. R.I.P |
as above met up with Ian and had a natter about "old times", Harvey will certainly be missed, but it was good that people took the time to pay their respects and send him on his way
sorry i missed you David / Bob................ alyn / AS Performance |
I was there as well. Great send-off, just so sad to have to do it.
I will never forget his kindness to me, his unfailing help of others, his depth of knowledge in so many subjects, his humour and his straight talking. Gone, but never to be forgotten. Goodbye, Harvey, my friend. |
Not been on for a while so very sad to hear this!! Have spoke with Harvey on many occasions over the years and was always very helpful
RIP matey |
Sorry for your loss Dawn, Harvey was as mentioned a very friendly & knowledgeable helpful guy & will be missed by all. R.I.P Harvey

I've just logged on and found this bad news, sorry to hear your loss Dawn. Harvey was a good man.

Harvey Smith was a great guy. Only met him once but will never forget the experience. I am a proud owner of one of his revolutionary "trick" up-pipes. Had a good natter with him about his vast collection of cars mainly subarus and will never forget the way he said rolling road with a rolling R.. What a guy R.I.P Harvey...

Having stripped my Impreza a couple of years ago I don't visit this site very often anymore. I've just heard of the very sad news about Harvey from a friend.
I never had the privilege to meet Harvey but while I was building my Impreza up he couldn't have been anymore helpful, taking lots of time to email, pm and text me different ideas. He will be missed by many people. R.I.P Harvey |
It was a Great send off for harvey nice to see a few familiar faces from the subaru comunity there to pay their respects and also a few i only knew by name
|
I don't come on here much and only just heard about this from some one today... "HOL, you remember Harvey....."
I remember, when he was new to Subaru ownership in the early days just like the rest of us, but his passion and drive were such that he just kept looking to push the boundaries of the subaru envelope. All by his own hand and most of it home designed. When we all thought, 350bhp was the limit, Harvey would drop a 375 at the next rolling road. The next event when everyone was looking for the elusive 400, Harvey would smile and rock up with 435.... he was always happy to go through in detail how he did it. Certainly one of the greats, and looking at the preceding messages... Definitely well missed. My sincere and belated condolences. HOL Class of 2001. |
I never met harvey but feel like i knew him, with so many people he helped on scoobynet saying so many good things, its a sad loss to his family and the extended family of the subaru tuners.my condolences to dawn and family.

Just read this a few days ago, and I'm shocked.
My heart goes out to the family and close friends. The Subaru world has lost a big figure in Harvey, always willing to give honest advise and debunk any of the myths that commonly occur. RIP Harvey. |
Just read this and although I didn't know him, he clearly will be hugely missed by many.
My sincere condolences to you and your family. RIP Harvey |
I only knew of Harvey from on here, straight talking, always polite, very knowledgeable and an honest reputable tuner and supplier.
He was an innovator, problem solver, and myth buster with many great achievements within the subaru tuning scene. One of a kind, who shall be remembered by all that had the pleasure to come into contact with him. RIP. |
will there be some sort of a meet in the future so we could all have a minutes silence in memory of Harvey?
