Been lucky enough to drive the mighty stelvio pass of top gear fame and a few days later the awesome vrsic pass in Slovenia all in a £250 Subaru legacy with a roof box ,

Also did the ring in the same week all in aid of charity on a banger rally:luxhello:

A272 down near Portsmouth, or the Llangynidr road in South Wales, both excellent roads!

borderlinechris 07 November 2012 09:01 PM

on the way up to john o groats, sutherland is excellent, some nice twisting bits and some stunning views if the weathers nice.as are the roads once you go over the bridge at inverness, heading north. john o groats isnt all that great tbh, to be fair thou it is getting some money thrown at it and some new buildings/chalets were going up when i was up in may/june

I drove some amazing roads recently between the Lake District and the Yorkshire Dales. Can't give specific road names as I was following others but they were amazing roads with no traffic for miles and a clear view in both directions, there was some fast driving done that day.

Loads of car clubs head into that area I had a close shave with a vx220 going opposite ways around a sharp bend, we were both very close to the centre line.

Stelvio Pass - approached from the Swiss side, so no traffic or cyclists.
The motorway along the northern cost in Italy going past Genoa and into Monaco - huge volume of traffic and constant tunnels, the motorway is rarely straight for more than a mile and add in the Italians driving nose to tail and at 80 was an experience.
Driving round Monaco on the roads used for the GP

I cant say I've had the experience in the UK really other than going North from Kinross towards Pewrth and coming off the M90 and going cross country and ending up in the Cairgorms !

But in Oz.......

The Royal National Park and the Illawarra Highway, both built for scoobs ;) + The run up to Bathurst through Oberon isn't bad either come off the Great Western Highway at Little Hartley and follow the Cox's River Rd all the way to Oberon, a stunning piece of road where you can see wel into the distance and safely use both sides of the road in the twistys.

The week before we moved home I did two very hard laps of the "Nash" knowing full well it would be the last time I did the run and the scoob was pushed to within an inch of it's life which led to terrible brake fade when I got back on the Princes Highway ;)

Little Miss WRX will know what I'm talking about :D

Oz has so many great driving roads and so few people of them.

The Bealach na ba ( pass of the cattle ) Applecross!

Google it and you wont find much better scenery!

ChrisB 08 November 2012 12:43 PM

A-397 from Ronda to Marbella. Awesome road, shame I've never had anything better than some nasty hire cars to do it in.

Andy RB5 08 November 2012 01:29 PM

The B6399 between Hawick and Newcastleton on the Scottish border is unbelievable

Transfagrasan route though the Carpathian Mountains. Best driving route I have ever been on, ruined by the presence of 20mph tourists though!!!

St. Ives - Lands end
Scarborough - Whitby over the moors
Lake District
Trossachs in Scotland

I have plenty...but they aren't in this country :lol1:

Here's a few I quite enjoy to have a blast when I get the chance:

http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?q=Jijo...,195.09,,0,5.5

This ones alot more twisty and Hilly: http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?hl=en&...,98.01,,0,12.4

The one time I drove that in anger I was 4-up in a 208 1.4 HDi....I was down to 1st gear on some of the hairpins and struggling to accelerate.....still loved every bit of it, proabably moreso as I could thrash it to death and not really break the speed limits by much :lol1:
