Buyer Beware!!!

Been looking to purchase a tow car and found this little gem on ebay, item No: 261119595627 was gonna bid upto £10k for it, before bidding I did abit of detective work and found out,... in May 2011 the car had 118'000 on it and by Feb 2012 it had covered 157'000, so by now I estimate close to 200'000 miles, Genuine mileage my arse! F*cking scum!!

fasteddie84 29 October 2012 02:42 PM

Best thing to do is report your findings to eBay and let them look into it and remove it if they come to the same conclusion (not say your are lying or anything).

I am from the Channel Islands and we have different road registration process. When importing a bike from the UK, I couldn't understand why it is optional to report the mileage when buying/selling vehicles. It just makes clocking a lot easier.

LouisB 29 October 2012 03:44 PM

How did you find out about the mileage?

MattyB1983 29 October 2012 03:50 PM

His feedback isn't great either.
I couldn't resist, I had to message him....lol....

Out of interest, how did you find out about its true mileage ??

I know Black-Hawk is in the motor trade,

Black-Hawk 29 October 2012 06:18 PM

Just basic stuff really, just phoned some Honda dealers starting close to the seller and then the wider area, two dealers gave me the same info that the car had been serviced by Perth Honda at 118k and 157k, good old Honda dealer network:notworthy, I f*cking hate crooks:hjtwofing

What was the message?

MattyB1983 29 October 2012 06:22 PM

Just asked him if he could prove the mileage etc etc. Was just gonna string him along a bit as I'm bored...lol...

But this is only any good for vehicles over 3 yrs old once they start being mot'd, i've seen a lot of cars that rack up alot of miles in the first three yrs and their the ones gettin clocked before their 1st mot, i saw an 8mth old vauxhall insignia the other day with 58'000 miles on it for £8'000, take 50k off the clock and its a £12'000 car and if it hasnt been dealer serviced youd never know.

chocolate_o_brian 30 October 2012 02:50 AM

That's galactic mileage. How do they cover 50,000 odd miles in 6 months?

Black-Hawk 30 October 2012 12:04 PM

I was wondering the same.

Godspeed Brakes 30 October 2012 12:33 PM

I'm sure you can check out the old mot's on the dvla website which states the mileage at the time the mot was done , and any faults they picked up , it was a free service when I last used it

MattyB1983 30 October 2012 01:54 PM

A good friend of mine sold his 12 month old X5 to a dealer about 6 months ago. Car had 25K showing on the clock. Week after selling it we checked the dealers website, car now showed 9K miles

We looked into it and apparently it's very simple to do. They just plug the car into a laptop which has a special program uploaded and they can change the mileage to whatever they want.
They only come unstuck if the car has been for work etc.

Black-Hawk 30 October 2012 09:58 PM

It's all to easy, I've defo got my guard up now.

Black-Hawk 12 November 2012 08:40 PM

Another car (Tommi Mak)listed by the same seller, i have a bad feeling about this one too, what you recon http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2611258023...305%26_rdc%3D1

Motorway Maintenance or Survey vehicles. Having said that we had a Corsa that did 97k in just over 18 months.

I'd like to know why this advert is worth considering

Car - looks horrendous

header says evo 5 6 wink

text of the ad starts off negative

I wouldn't have clicked the advert in the first place off the picture and the header
whoever buys should know better

He contradicts himself throughout, he goes on about Motul oils and then further down it says Silkolene, 2 different types of spark plugs, apparently it's been his weekend toy and it has been maintained by him and a Subaru enthusiast and then at the bottom of the advert he's taken it in part exchange and he can't get insurance so he's selling it.

Seems to be an advert for about 3 different cars from 2 different people.

Ryan went looking for "bobby mc'coy" to see if he's relisted the Honda accord.
