Kimberley-Clarke to pull out of EUROPE???

Anyone heard anything?

My contact says 16,000 jobs to go Europe wide.......
Apparently everyone is being escorted off site.

That's going to be devestating if it's right.:(

Not at all - another company will step in and take over, re-recruiting (TUPE) all the previously dismissed staff.

Looks like the Barton plant in Scunny is going

SPEN555 24 October 2012 01:32 PM

Hardly 16,000? It only talks about diapers. $hitty nappies to the layman :D

The 16,000 is what the locval staff have been told, it's a Europe-wide pull-out, sure enough.

Approx 400 work at Barton, 1500 over the 5 European plants. We were not escorted off site, but due to the nature of the announcement, given the afternoon off to take it on board. Back tomorrow.

Thanks for that Paul, some alarmist stuff in my e-mail, then.

My company haul out of Barton upon Humber it will be a big contract loss if it closes ,, also affected will be a big storage depot in chorley purpose built just last year for stock holding / also Kimberley has a big plant in north fleet , so I'm guessing jobs will be cut there 2
/ on another level this will bring massive encouragement to SCA hygiene who are there biggest rival - perhaps a buyout is on the horizon
Will be watching this with interest

Seems they are getting out of the Nappy business.

The performance of Huggies has been poor. Basically nearly all the volume is sold on promotion, and therefore margins are terrible.

Kimberly Clark aren't going away though, and have market leading brands in Andrex and Kleenex, so the thread title is a bit misleading

Yes I agree on the promotion quote , but its the same for its rivals
Also we're north fleet & chorley are primarily toilet rolls & kitchen rolls par sa
Barton is the European hub for huggies

It even states on the entrance
"The home of huggies"
So Barton will be the first to feel the pain I'm afraid

Huggies are terrible nappies, but the wipes are the best. I would only buy the nappies if they were the last ones in the shop, or they were giving them away, so understand they might not be doing well.
