Prodrive GT1 wheels

How strong are Prodrive GT1 wheels?

I am about to put winter tyres onto my standard STi 17" rims, but rather than remove the winter tyres in spring I will be looking for some 18" rims.

I like the look of Prodrive GT1, but roads in rural Lincolnshire are not kind on rims and I know some after market rims are very easily bent.

I want function before looks.

The roads in rural wales ain't that much better, but had GT1's on my RB for over 5 years & they are spot on, with no issues!!

my old man has them on his and they seem very robust! where we live we have a lot of back roads that are shull we say maintained very poorly quite like every other uk road, i know he's hit a nasty pot hole at 70 and that felt as though my back was going to brake! it even knock the tracking out when it got checked next day!

I think 35 profile tyres on 19" rims would be asking for trouble!

Excellent quality and finish and have lasted me for 36k miles

And they look fantastic in gold :D

Take a bit of cleaning but when they look as good as this you dont mind

I think GT1's are as strong as any other quality wheel. Saying that though i have cracked one and had to have it repaired. According to a mate in a tyre shop, he sees plenty of halfords Italian rubbish bent beyond repair from pot holes so i would stay away from cheap rubbish.

its a challenge on colour tbh i like anthracite in GT1's although not had the chance to see 1 in the flesh in gold :)

had GT1's on my hatch when it was new & bent one wheel but that took a massive hit to it, personally i think allot depends on how hard the sidewall of your tyres are in relation to if they squash quite easilly on a pot hole as thats when the most damage will occur, Just like running with a flat tyre

Plus one on the cleaning, but when clean they look great. I am impressed with the wheels but the pirelli zero nero's are a noisy tyres. I am going to lower the prssure a few points of a bar and see how this feels.

The other thing i have noticed is the offset is 53mm most 18's are 48mm so they will sit about 5mm more inboard, but my car feels sharper in the turn in.:wonder: I came from Work Emotion's with same 7.5" x 18" albeit with 48mm offet but the car feels sharper.

Got them on my 330s and have no issues at all, although the Pirelli tyres are utter pants in damp to wet conditions but there is to much tread to warrant replacing them just yet.
