I have a MY01 220bhp Impreza with 16" rims. I intend to upgrade my rims to either a 17" or 18" set. The 17s have the advantage of being lighter and require cheaper tyres and would be the obvious choice. However, I would like to leave room for a brake upgrade later on when I can afford it. Hence the question: If I get the 17s, will there be enough room for say, an AP upgrade? If so, is there a restriction on the brake disc diameter? Would the 18s automatically solve this problem? Lastly, is there a range of off-set or other specs that I should be aware of?

Any advice would be much appreciated.

btw: am considering the OZ superlegerras, either 17 (off-set 48) / 18 (off-set 51) but am open to any suggestions. would like to get as "light" a set as possible.

Lighter wheels than the OZ are : Volk, SSR, Limix, Einkei.

Most brake kits will fit inside the 17's, the onlt time you'll have a problem is if you want really silly size brakes.
Trouble is, on the 01, even 17's look small! 18's don't even look big, but 19's do!

Light is good.. but light AND strong is better.

Our 18" wheel weighs in at just under 7 KG. :eek:

Each wheel is machined from a SOLID BILLET of FORGED Alloy. The forging process aligns the grains of alloy giveing between 3-4 times the strength of cast alloy. We then machine out the wheel to get the the shape :cool: You will really struggle to bend these. Our own "ahem".. er impact tests :rolleyes: DOH!! have seen 70mph do no more than cosmetic damage in the battle of wheel Vs Kerb :)

The OZ wheel you mention is ideal, they are INCREDIBLY strong and are a wheel used on many rally cars (including Impreza WRC cars) due to their world renowned reputation for both strength and low weight.

You will get any of the current AP kits under either the 17" or 18" wheels.
