2012 BMW 330D

Ok so in a few months im gonna gain access to the company portal and start the speccing of my new company car. The dilemma I have is I want 40+ mpg and it to be fast and diesel.

I keep coming back to the new 330D which is all aspects ticks the boxes apart from rear wheel drive snow issue.

So my question really is does anybody actually know the differences of the new models

Luxury
Modern
M-Sport ( this is most prob as the old ones are diff suspension Wheels and steering wheel)
SE

any ideas what the others have.
My view would be buy an SE and spec it up as its 3k cheaper

Advise me

M135i for less than £30k, just throwing it out there ... f*ck the mpg!

On topic I doubt you'll get +40mpg from the 330d?

TX.

I'm in the market for a 330D (E90) and having floated round the BM forums i am comfortable that 40+ mpg is well possible and i suspect it will be even easier to achieve in the latest model :thumb:

Agree on the mpg. My F10 535D is showing an average of 30mpg over the 7000 miles I've had it.

90% of my driving is in traffic, only 10% is motorway type journeys. I'm sure that a 330D with a nearer 50/50 mix of driving would get you around 40 mpg.

Littleted, I would make sure you drive a M Sport spec car before you buy. My own personal experience is that MSport + runflats+ biggish wheels makes for a really rubbish ride on UK roads. It's the biggest flaw on my 535d and has sort of spoiled the ownership experience.

Make sure it also comes with the £400 left and right indicator stalk and lights option :) not sure how BMW sell their cars but I see some that apparrently dont have this option ;)

The 330d, meanwhile, has 255bhp and a hefty 413lb ft, and can reach 62mph in just 5.6sec. BMW claims it delivers 55mpg and 135g/km of CO2.

Impressive if you ask me

Ok we can argue about figures, but itll be 45 to 50 easily on the m1

600 to a tank im told

I can get 38mpg on a motorway cruise so you will easily get 45+

Yeah agreed DIng hence why I think im gonna get Lux model or SE and stay clear of Msport sus, im also gonna request removal of the runflats and some winters on

Different set of wheels and tyres for the winter is the answer to the rear wheel drive issue. By set of wheels, I do mean all 4. You can then have way better stopping distance and traction than anyone other than a 4x4.

Winter tyres are amazing, everyone should have a set to hand. Drive on a good set and you will never risk winter on normal tyres again.

Oh, and you might just get 40mpg. My father has a 535D and does a lot of cruising, and he only gets 34mpg

zip106 18 October 2012 09:51 PM

Instead of buying winter tyres and wheels ( have to have the wheels as well on the Alpina), we actually bought, insured, taxed and ran a little 4x4 complete with winter tyres for a fair bit less than the cost of Alpina winters!

Frosticles 18 October 2012 10:02 PM

I have an E91 330d M Sport. Before DPF removal it was averaging a combined 40.3 mpg. After DPF removal it has now gone up to 46.8 mpg. If just doing motorway driving then 650+ to the tank is achievable. Awesome car.

Thanks frost, I think I,ll be ok with around 45 to 50, mine are also 80% M1

All I gotta do now is pick the extras.

So far im adding
Heated seats
Harmon Kardon sound
and I quite fancy the parking aids, including the aerial view

Dingdongler 19 October 2012 11:25 AM

The aerial view is fantastic, and like heads up display it's one of those toys that I couldn't live without.

This is the car on my drive, you can see the blockwork, the grass verge and steps leading up to my house. It works really well

im sold

ScoobyJawa 19 October 2012 03:16 PM

I have the old 231bhp 2006 330 engine.

It gets 39-41 on a run, about 34-37 around town.

And goes like the clappers ;) :)

Brun 19 October 2012 04:33 PM

Is that an auto or man?

ScoobyJawa 20 October 2012 05:53 PM

Auto with 270bhp+ and 600nm :D I'd hate a manual diesel, especially on our crowded roads.
