SC36 Billet Turbo
Just looking for more information on the SC36 Billet Turbo. I am looking into upgrading the stock IHI VF24 turbo on my Type R. Would this be a good choice of turbo for a road car of this spec? I am also looking at the IHI VF34. Would like to know how they compare.
I have used the search function but can't find much. Nothing that is helpful anyway. Here's the relevant spec V4 STi Type R EJ20K full overhaul @ RCM All belts and seals replaced RCM Modified Oil Pump RCM Pulleys RCM Fuel Pump SX Fuel Press Reg Parallel Fuel Rail Mod 550cc Injectors Low Temp Thermostat, New Rad and Water Pump RCM Induction Kit RCM Down Pipe RCM Full System Harvey Smith Ported Headers and Custom Up Pipe ESL Mapped by Zen |
i ran the sc36 and loved every second of it. It spools stood still and made a very good road car. I ran 361 bhp and 392 bhp with 20% meths.

I run an SC 38.
I think a 36 would be great for you. |
thanks for the feedback and interesting comments. would I be right in saying that the SC36 is essentially a Blouch 16g xtr. I noticed Slowboy racing is a stockist of Blouch turbo's.
legacy_gtb - I did see the sc billet thread but it seemed to have more info on the larger range of SC turbos and not much on the SC36. yellowevo - Thanks for the offer but I am not 100% decided on what to buy at the moment. I am also looking at the RCM 400 turbo. Is there much difference between the two and again the VF34 gets good reviews. It's just about selecting the right one for the job. Thanks again |
you need to be certain what your goal is, the SC36 is a 16g billet turbo aimed to produce 360bhp (more with fuel additivies) , it will have immense spool and probably spool not much different to your current setup but with more power.
The RCM400 is a 400bhp turbo and will be much bigger and most likely have more lag , again the limitations on this maybe your gearbox, intercooler etc. the SC36 would be a very good upgrade in my opinion, the RCM400 sounds like its much more then you require. |
Hi Barnshaw,
Thanks for coming in on this. I think you're right. The RCM 400 is too big for my requirements. I think the VF34 and SC36 are better suited and will be a great addition to my current setup. I don't want engine and gearbox running at max power levels. I am looking for a reliable setup. 330 - 340 is more than enough power for a road car. The VF34 being more than capable to produce this sort of power level but so is the SC. So it comes down to how these turbos deliver the power, spool and so on. options are: 1. Keep my existing setup VF24 but with remap 2. Exisiting setup with VF34 3. Same as above but with SC36. Any further advice will be appreciated. |
