New Dog, New Car Needed!

Ladies and Gents, I need your recommendations for the best Estate car for carrying a Golden Retriever (he’s going to be huge) around in.

I have about £5k to spend, and given that this is Non-Scooby forum, I’m guessing it shouldn't be a Subaru.;)

Cheers

Martin

Some people use a lead which at £5 has the edge on price :thumb:

dl

Can't beat a Volvo. You'll get a cracker for £5k

I had an audi a6 estate for my two but in the end swapped for a disco, just be ware that once the dog smell gets in in is VERY hard to remove so what ever you pay the car will be worthless when you sell it.

The Mini Clubman with the reat seats folded down would be ok but outside your budget unfortunately. Very economical car too.

Legacy gtb has built in dog guards which roll out of the top of the rear seats and clip to the roof! :-)

Yes a bit out of my price range unfortunately. Also I should of added that I also need to get 2 kids in it

I was thinking maybe Mondeo?

ScoobyDoo555 15 October 2012 03:24 PM

using a Volvo V40 1.9d for my Black lab. Prior to this, he was getting used to an Audi S4 Avant.
Used to surprise a few people as he went past them, looking out the window! :D

We have an "Other Marques" forum too ;)

For that sort of cash I'd say you wouldn't go too far wrong with a Ford, Mondeo or Focus estate. Not enough for a BMW or VAG variant really. Volvos are also Fords ;)

Bean1984 15 October 2012 03:37 PM

Me personally id buy a vectra v6 estate. Still a powerfull car matey as well as being fairly easy to work on

ScoobyDriverWannabe 15 October 2012 03:49 PM

Don't have any experience with them personally but I would check those Vauxhall Signums out.

Well within your price range and seem to get allot for the money.

My Newfoundland rides around in our Mondeo estate. We could probably fit another Newfy in if we wanted to.

gazzawrx 15 October 2012 09:27 PM

i had one and it is perfect for dog carrying.
go for a 2.0 ltr turbo (most reliable engine) which has a good spread of power.
go for a late facelift model - design if you want sport pack or elite for leather clad armchair seats.
have a look at the vectra-c forum - they will give you advice.

I had a volvo V70r for carrying my ridgeback around in, good quality cars imo.

My new boss is selling his 2007 Audi A6 2.0ltr tdi 158k,new turbo,new timing belt,new tyres,fsh,full leather,sat nav etc for £5.500

LSherratt 20 October 2012 10:50 AM

Only £5.50? Bargain

rb5_336 20 October 2012 10:51 AM

A classic v70r is a great choice. Ive since had a C43 AMG estate and Land rover defender

ditchmyster 21 October 2012 07:45 PM

WRX wagon with ppp, plenty of room for dogs and family and goes well too, although my new cane corso goes in my isuzu trooper or the rover 25 and he's bigger than a lab at 5 months old.

eelz 21 October 2012 08:09 PM

Bargain volvo and low mileage that

LSherratt 22 October 2012 10:54 AM

The older Audi S4 Avant? (the ones before 2005).

Bonehead 22 October 2012 11:16 AM

I'm in the same boat. I got a GSD puppy two months ago and now at just under six months old he's already as big as most of the Labs he meets in the local playing field.

I've got a Leon Cupra which funnily enough replaced my old Wagon last summer.
I had two Classic Wagons over the past seven years so even though another Scoob would be right for the dog and I know it'd be a great car I fancy something different.

I've got in mind an E46 3 Series 330I Touring as I'd still like something sporty and I've always fancied one of those BMWs, though I have heard the interiors aren't that spacey

I've been looking at Autotrader and Pistonheads and there's plenty out there in my budget (£4k - £5k) including the post 2003 ones with the 6 speed gearbox.

I had thought I could wait until the summer to get a new car but I was driving the other day and the dog had his head right in the front part of the car so new car time is gonna have to be soon!
