Before I go and buy a Scoob!
 

Been doing a lot of reading about Scooby's.

For my money it looks like I can get a UK Turbo, the shape before the bug eye.

What I was wondering is before I go and buy one........

How much for spark plugs, alternator, starter motor.....The general wear and tear items?

Also I know Scoob's are not the best MPG wise but what can be achieved if say driving with care as in 2k gear changes?

expect about 20mpg

its not an exotic so parts are not major money

spark plugs around £35
air filter around £15-£20
fuel filter genuine £35
decent oil and filter (always a genuine filter) £50-£60

alt and starter motors not sure but loads of breakers on here so you wont be left with an empty wallet

as for mpg..................its not good with town driving but on a long run on the motor way its ok (i did 140 miles on £20 on the mway)

whats your budget mate on buying one?

I have a late classic and I'm getting 26-34mpg but I do drive it fairly easy. If I push it then it can go down to 10-20mpg . Plugs aren't that bad but use ngk's, no need to change the others listed, fuel filters. Spark plugs, oil, oil filters are bits you need to do, they arent cars you should cheap out on. Use Brakes and tyres but if you shop around you can get a good deals

Scoobs aren't really cheap cars to run and if you are concerned about mpg and the cost of parts it might not be the best car for you! Have you checked out insurance and road tax costs?
I think you would have to be driving very steadily to get 30mpg and lets be honest that's not why we buy a Scoob is it ;) Second hand parts are plentiful (Subaru use lots of common parts between different models) and specialist companies like importcarparts.co.uk offer viable alternatives to Subaru main dealers.
In short buy a decent car, look after it well and enjoy owning it!
