Heat shields or wrap
Hi every one just seeing what every ones opinion is on what's best .the factory heat shields on the exhaust system or heat wrap . Just I was fitting some new gauges and decided to use a sandwich plate and found it really tight underneath with the heat shields fitted . It's a blob wrx
Opinions please Ta . |
I have just heat wrapped my new downpipe on my wrx blobeye and found the engine bay temps are notably lower than before if that helps? Pretty much any after market exhaust loses the hangers for the factory heat shield anyway.

Thanks for that . It does a bit but for now I'm keeping standard headers but replacing the up pipe just wondered if removing the heat shield on the headers and wrapping them would not only improve temps but give me more wiggle room underneath

hi,,my polished n stainless headers are wrapped,,,,all good,,untill it rains!!!!,,,buckets of steam as the wrap gets wet,,,piles out of your vents and scoop!!!

Reply Take it you don't have your under tray fitted ? |
DEi heat wrap or something of similar quality will be a better heat insulator than the OE heat shields.
It is not worth taking perfectly working headers off the car, removing the heat shields just for the purpose of wrapping. The time to wrap the headers is when they start to rattle and you have to do something about it. Your ideal solution would be ported headers and matched uppipe which come to you DEI heat wrapped and you will notice a performance gain just from driving the car. |
