show me your gear knob
 

well, not everybody. can anybody show me what the standard gear knob looks like in a blob eye wrx wagon? i have one of these in mine, but i dont like the feel of it. 've seen them advertised as original subaru items, but the fact that my gear stick is threaded and this is held on with grub screws suggests otherwise.

AFAIK, OE gearknobs are threaded, only aftermarket ones have grubscrew fitting, as you suspect.

I used to have a Momo one with grubscrews, but it was never solid enough and the grubscrews had little enough metal to make threads.

I eventually turned up a piece of steel with the EXACT internal diamater to fit over the gear lever threads, and the exact external diameter to fit INSIDE the Momo knob. I then drilled the collar of the momo knob and pinned the new piece in palce after smearing it with araldite. once it had set, I redrilled it and tapped it M5 for three stainless cap-head screws.

It didn't come off or loose again until I sold the box on.
