Bad service!
 

Just had my two front tyres fitted by a local mobile fitter (speedys in derby).

I did a bit of research in the area and they came out on top with the best reviews and pricing. Firstly my wheels are PFF's. So the chap turns up and takes thes first wheel off no dramas, I must add it did have a small scuff mark on it from myself already. He takes the tyre off the rim with no issues and all seemed well but this is when things go down hill!

Putting the new one on it looked a tight fit as you would expect but I can then see and hear scraping of the alloy as the machine goes around :mad: He gets it on finally and inflates it and puts it on the balancing machine where I can now see the full extent of the damage. Big lumps of paint have been taken off nearly all the way around, the thing looks terrible! I point it out and he just says firstly it was curbing:nono: I point out no this small mark here was keeping the rest is you you f**king ****! He then try's to tell me it's the way it's been painted badly:cuckoo: So I ring his boss and tell him about it all and he says to bring it to the garage so he can have a look. I turn up and the first thing he points out is its also all kerb damage! Are you f**king serious mate!? He then starts to slowly admit it maybe was the technican and then basically offers me a refurb on them at a slightly discounted price. I go along with him but don't have any intention on returning, imagine the balls up of a paint job if they can't even remove a tyre without damaging it!

Pretty angry as you can tell! Really don't have the spare income to refurb them at the moment especially as I might as well do all 4 instead of just 2.

Out of interest can anyone reccomend a Decent wheel refurb company in the Derbyshire area so I can get a quote for this mess!

Just get them refurbed by a pro and send the cnut the bill. similar happened to me few years ago in my 3dr cossie - took it in for some tyres, and when I went back to collect it later on, it looked like he's wiped his hands all over the seat (light grey velour) I went mental, boss said he would have it cleaned, but I took it to a proper company to have the whole interior done, and sent the bill to him.

There's a bloke in our area called beaver wheels or similar,he did my alpina wheels on my m3 and did a fantastic job, this was a while ago so unsure if he's still going.

In the mean time I'd suggest contacting trading standards and ringing the idiot from speedys telling him what you are doing and what you expect from them, follow it up with a recorded delivery letter.

Same happened here few years back but i made sure they knew they were payin for the refurb no ifs or buts, wheels were near new at the time with no marks on them either was well upset to say the least!

id get a referb by a reputable company and then send them the bill mate , sometimes it does happen on wheels (obviously not me lol) but you should hold your hands up and say "i damaged the wheel " etc

Sorry to hijack your thread, but got a question for M444GY. Been looking at these Rota grid wheels, same as your profile pic - do they vary in how concaved the spokes are? i've seen some that look almost flat compared to the ones in your pic?

When theres a lil curbing already surely it can take more of the paint off. But I bet u were pissed man. Send them to maggy he does or know s someone

haha, i bet it has in the past, but then i bet you man up and get it put right.

To me thats one of the differences, every company makes a mistake at some point, if they step up and put it right then you can't ask for much more :thumb:

Sorry to hear of your trouble mate.Can recommend The Wheel Specialist.I went to their Burton-On-Trent unit to have my Rota Gravel alloys changed to Chacoal Grey.All i can say is that Chris is a perfectionist and was money well spent.I believe they have a unit in Derby,but you would get a discount if you mentioned me at Burton.PM if interested.:thumb:.If not hope you get it sorted.:)

I will send them away to a professional outfit when I have the cash, the alloy wheel specialist in burton sounded ok, gave them a call and told them the whole story. £80 a wheel fully stripped and resprayed sound good? He even offered discount on 4 wheels to make it a little less painful on the wallet.

They can use something on that stops damage forgot na that hawleys did my van alloys and v v good
I had a tire place at Rotherham totally fit the wrong size tire to my old scoobs front causing diff failure in the middle of nowhere !!
They did eventually pay up after trading standards and sc got involved
Sent me the cheque and my rotti ate the thing
So had to ask again ( imbarrasing)

I was going to but as the mobile guy for that garage has been to my house to fit the tyres and I don't fancy any back lash if they start to get arsey, maybe me just being a wimp but it's not worth the hassle if I come out one morning to find it keyed or with slashed tyres.

I'm sure nameing and shaming hurts them more in the long run.

I think theres a plastic part that tyre fitters put on the machine to avoid this happening,I always point out i don't expect my wheels to get damaged(obviously) when i change tyres.You are being a VERY reasonable chap not demanding a refurb at their cost,This could happen everytime you change tyres couldn't it?

Well it's the first time something like that has happened to me, I think I'll be going to the specialist as mentioned further up in the thread in future. At least if anything does get damaged those guys have the facilities to sort it. Also for future reference I'll be taking pictures of each wheel before it comes off the car so no one can try mugging me off.

Why not have them refurbed by the garage mate, if they balls them up you're no worse off, but they just may do a good job.

One p1ss poor tyre fitter does not mean the whole outfit will be rubbish. Give them a chance to sort it but explain they must be done 100% right as otherwise you will be sending them the bill form another outfit.

Worth a try and you do have the manager on the back foot right now!

How many wheels did he wreck?

Did he put grease on the rim before removal/fitting?

The garage offered to refurb them for you, you cannot then get them done yourself and present the bill to them (without letting them know that all trust has broken down between you, so, you will be doing it yourself and sending the bill).

+1 sometimes on a tight the arm of teh changer can flex or be pull down onto the rim or the wheel moves as it isn't clamped properly, its usually a case of keeping an eye out and stopping before it starts scuffing the entire rim.

Our old tyre changer started doing that when it got a bit old and ropey. Got a nice new Hoffmann now. Happy days. :)

of course it has happened in the past on our old machines but we always put it right and the customer went away happy, our new machines have nylon feet so they are pretty safe to wheels , but wheels do slip on occasions which cant be helped
