searched some olf threads on here and people ar syaing magnatec is crap oil.......i have just today done an oil change with the stuff:( there is a few saying its fine i used 10w 40w part synthetic been out and done a good 40 miles after the change and she seems better than ever i used a genuine subaru filter ...... if its meant to be this bad shall i drain the 30 quids worth of oil and swap for something different ???? or just leave it now until i do another change in 6 months???

It's not crap, it's just that there are better oils out there.
Keep it in and follow your 2nd suggestion.

yeah i think ill do that it cant be worse than the old oil i drained looked well over the 6 month mark and was very thin

Typically Magnatec is semi synthetic (although there are fully synthetic versions of Magnatec too!). Its no better or worse than other brand of semi synth oil. Subaru UK specify either A3 or A1 grade oil for pretty much all of their cars which usually conforms to most Magnatec branded oils.

The only thing that has changed is the reccomended viscosity (10w-40 for early cars, 5w-30 for later cars), both of which magnatec are available in. And that will depend on the year and model....assuming it is a standard car and driven in a manner typical of UK driving (wink wink ;) )....So...

....How you drive it is also the key here.

Repeated short journeys less than 30mins, it will degrade quicker with contamination and will need changing sooner. I reccommed 6months.

Hard use (B-road blasting ;) )/sustained high speed, the higher temperatures experienced may mean you need a thicker oil or a fully synthetic oil as well as changing it more often.

If the car runs alot more horsepower than stanadard, that will also need to be considered.

It has a terrible reputation for making something akin to 1980s Ford 1600cc CVH sludge.

I can honestly only say I've only ever seen that happen on cars used for short jorneys, or ones that have been neglected having overdue or missed oil changes on repeated occasions.

That said Helix does the same.

The worst was a BMW used on the BMW's typical longlife service plan, but incorrectly using Magnatec A3 10w-40 (DIY/back street services for over 4 years)....It should have been using LL-98 spec oil or better; Magnatec is not LL-98, never has been. That meant it went for upto 2 years and/or 15,000 miles between oil changes, when the oil was only good for half that period........sludgetastic.
