You must remember, a car means different things to different people. For what it is the Yaris is a great little motor car. If you were in the market for a small, economical, well built car chances are the Yaris would be high on your short list?

Something else that might go some way to explaining why the scoob has fallen this year is the level of expectation people have now. People don't expect much of a Skoda so when they turn out ok, people rate them high because they have beaten their expectation. In the case of the scoob, after several years of doing very well in the JD Power survey, buyers expect greatness so when things do go wrong, they get marked down.

It's still a great drivers car though...

Personally could not care where it finished. Still love it to bits. If your dealer is crap change dealer.

Agree with some of the points I have just flicked through. It really p####s me off people moaning abount high insurance and fuel costs. Wake up and smell the coffee!!

If you want 40 mpg and £300 per annum comprehensive, may I suggest a 4 wheel drive, turbocharged rally car based road car was not the ideal starting point! DOH!!!

Maybe the Yaris would be better.

I don't know what the ratio of turbo/non-turbo Imprezas sold in the UK is, but the picture that they used on Top Gear last night for the Subaru Impreza was the non-turbo version.

Well I have to say this result is spot on. The survey clearly isn't swayed by industry back-handers.
The survey covers mainly MY98's which we all know have suffered from umpteen problems.
I think it's worth pointing out though that when the Impreza did well in this survey it was before the car was really popular. I mean, there were hardly any Scoobs in Northampton when I got mine, now there are dozens. The previous results probably had an influence on people buying a Scoob, but it looks like it has backfired on IM. The last thing they need when trying to flog the new shape car is a fall from 1st to 43rd!! People will automatically associate the result with new car, not ones that are three years old! Add to that the fact they're being beaten by Hyundai in the WRC and a certain song springs to mind...

Having had a quick flick through top gear, the Scoob fell down on it's cost of ownership, 1 blob instead of 5. Dealers were still up there at 5 blobs. On equipment it was marked down because of the crap stereo.

I personally think there should be some sort of value for money selection, or does it meet the objectives I set out when I bought the car section.

I still think that the previous JD Power surveys were not as representative of the UK population as this one. In previous surveys you had to contact Top Gear who would send you a survey. This meant that the people who were represented in the survey were a combination of:

1. enthusiasts - i.e. watching Top Gear or reading the mag

2. People with a gripe about their car

3. People with lots of praise to sing about their car


For this year's survey, the DVLA contacted people at random - hence a more representative survey.
