New theft method for high end cars
Interesting article on using a security flaw in the cars OBD setup to reprogram a blank key to start the engine of expensive cars and simply drive off. Apparently its big in Australia and is a growing concern now in the Midlands

all it needed was a encrypted (encryption retained by oe) pin on the key recode function. then the independants could ask owner for pin come recode time.

This is not new. It's been around since last year. Already been a thread on here about it, and also a massive one on pistonheads.

the loophole has been closed now on some cars. bmw have a fix for older cars due in 8 weeks.

The OBD port isn't really the only problem.
The fact that the interior alarm sensors have a dead spot right by the drivers door/OBD location, doesn't help matters... |
Is it me or has the buttong disapeared for new thread, quote etc?
I am unable to create a new post but can only use the quick reply box? I would have reported it elsewhere but you can see the problem lol....is it a FF problem? |
