VF43 turbo issue / question

I recently had to change my turbo to intercooler pipe. While the old pipe was off i noticed some oil laying in the bottom of the turbo outlet. I wasn't a lot of oil but it wasn't just a smear either.
I do notice i get a puff of smoke on start up sometimes so i am presuming this is the cause. My engine is in great shape having only been forged 2k ago by one of the top builders who frequent this site and the car runs great. I have not noticed any smoke in my rear view mirror when boosting.

I presume this is the oil seal in the turbo leaking. Is this a common issue with these turbos and is it anything to worry about? Im running about 1.6 bar.

Cheers. Rog

It's quite normal for a small amount of oil to be present, as long as the pipes and intercooler are relatively clean you should be ok.

There must be a little getting through to cause the smoke on start up now and again but the car runs great so im not panicking quite yet. I know the engine builder modified the oil pump PRV, maybe this has given me a higher oil pressure then combined with the extra boost levels causing some oil to blow by the seal?

Do you still have the breather pipes connected the the inlet pipe ?, if so this is where your excess oil is from, to cure this you require a 3 port catch tank fitting.
